    Hi guys,

Just booked a few tickets to go to Barcelona. Just a quick question for people who have used Ryanair before - Is there any way to make this holiday truly free? I've never been via Ryanair before, so what about luggage? I booked the flights with the option of 0 bags and online check-in (£30 is ridiculous for 1 bag). Will that be a problem? Can you take 1 bag for free onto the plane? How does it work?

    Thanks in advance.

One bag up to 10k with size within ryanair regs (55 x 20 x 40 off the top of my heads....check the site just to be safe.) If you have on-line checkin and paid by electron then that's it mate........free trip.

If you used a Visa Electron card to buy the flights and only take one piece of hand luggage per person you can get the flight free as you're charged by taking suitcases etc (Any baggage you want to check in) and also for using Credit or Debit Cards.
  • Can some one proove to me a free deal flying from london to any half decent european destination?!?!?!

Ideally for a weekend away, but day trips possible...

I just feel that I am been scammed?
  • Thanks for the replies guys, very helpful.

Can't wait to go now. :)

You can take hand luggage free - just make sure you check the size and weight restrictions.

In general, I think Ryanair are fine as long as you look for, and understand, all the finicky restrictions and tailor your trip accordingly. Although £30 for a single piece of hold luggage is a lot, the overall flight costs are still pretty good - you are flying to a foreign country after all. It cost me less to take an 80 mile underground, train and bus trip from Barcelona to Girona airport than the rest of the journey from Bournemouth to near Southampton - and the flight itself was less than the train from Southampton to London. I reckon the Spanish leg of the journey plus flight cost about 8p a mile; the remaining English leg about £1 a mile.
  • Haven't tried this myself but for anyone without an Electron card there may be another way to avoid the payment charges. Someone on HUKD has reported buying a gift voucher online using their normal credit card. They then used this to pay for their flights without being charged. They bought a voucher worth £30, not sure what the minimum is BUT you have to spend it within 6 months. Might be worth a look if you know you will spend the balance soon.
Just to update the comment about using vouchers to purchase the '1p tickets'.
I managed to buy two return tickets to dublin for 4p, by using a voucher of 25 euros. The only problem is you are not allowed to use the balance, it is all used up for one purchase, even if the value of the flight is only 4p. Still cheap but not 4p, the 2 return flights cost 25 euros i.e. the full value of the voucher.
  • Hey all juts got back from stanstead - Dublin doing this last weekened for three days - 2p flights plus the £8 booking charge for not having an electron. Took on a wheelie suitcase and stuffed it full of clothes which was exactly 50 x 20 x 40 and had no problems.

Just remember the Euro is shocking at the moment and with the average price of a pint being €5 in dublin thats a £5 pint ... eek!

Does anyone know where i can get a visa electron card from?

Got one last month from the Co-op Bank. Used tel number from their website, gave details over the phone and card arrived five days later.

I have booked ten 2p return flights yesterday. All to German soil but for Dusseldorf Weeze I will cross the border to Netherlands (its closer than Dusseldorf!) . Frankfurt Hahn I will cross the border to Luxemburg.

However the one for a decent break seems to be
Friedrichshaven (I know I hadn't heard of it either!) It's in the very south of Germany. wonderful lakeside touristy town and is close to borders of Austria, boats across the lake to Switzerland and also Litchenstein. The airport is also in the town just a quick bus ride. This for me is the one I would most recommend.

Yep, I have a Co-op Electron debit card as well. Never let me down.
