Help. I've won a Honda convertable (apparently)..

I received an email this morning from a Honda dealership in Australia. Looks genuine, and I'v checked the website out and that looks genuine too. Anyway, the email says I'm the grand prize winner of a Honda S2000 convertable. I have to either email my response or telephone to confirm my winning.
I do remember filling out a competition to win a car a while ago now, following a link from the money saving expert competitions board.. maybe that's how I've won??
Anyone have any ideas to soothe my concern lol.

they will have a cash alternative, would be much more beneficial than paying the import taxes etc. I won a Mk5 Golf in a raffle and was asked if i wanted them to buy it off me. Of course you will get less but in your case I think you will probably still be better off..

Congrats, winning my car was the best feeling of my life.. I hope you feel the same!

  • Thank you all, I hope it's genuine too. Suppose you can never tell until I contact them and get a reply. I have already emailed today, asking if they could send me more confirmation. I will try and telephone later tonite when they will be open.

Good idea about asking for a cash alternative, never thought about that. Thanks. How do you receive cash alternatives??

be careful i remeber watching a programme about a con where you won a car form abroad had to pay the import charges and then you never got the car. Not meaning to put a downer on things just want you to be careful.

Hope its genuine and if so huge congrats

keep us upto date on your progress with them

  • Oh. I'll keep everyone updated. As I've said I'm not wholly convinced, but I gotta check it out all the same. Would be really funny if it were genuine tho'
  • Just a quick update. I sent the company an email asking them to send me some further confirmation of my winning and thed prize. I did get a reply email, with a scanned image of the newspaper that the winner was announced in. Whether this is proof enough I don't know. But I've emailed back asking for a cash alternative as I don't want to be landed with any import costs. See what they come back with. I guess if it's totally false, and they are just hoping to get cash out of me for nothing in return, then that email may put them off.
  • Just don't email them your bank account details so that they can make a money transfer straight into it! You know where I'm going on this... West Africa...
...and then the window licker said to me...
