Logitech Messenger Microphone!!!??

Options
It must be me.... but I am going mad at my inability to get the microphone on the logitech quickcam messenger to work properly!! I bought this last week, after my brother,in Scotland, had no bother setting his one up, but although the tests.. video capture and audio and playback all work and record, when the kids try to use this to chat to their cousins,we can see and be seen, but they can't hear us. Have tried with other friends - same thing. I don't know what else to do. Have tried reinstalling, and all the tests work , but when we try to use it no one is hearing us ....... AAAAAARGH!!! HELP ME SOMEBODY PLEASE

What tests are you donig exactly?
  • Downloaded new drivers off the Logitech website. Opened up the camera and then "Quickcapture". Recorded and played back successfully through the Media player. In "Help" in camera checked thro FAQ's for possible conflicts etc. Only thing not carried out was to remove the WDM Video Capture as the video works and the problem appears to only be the microphone not being audible by other users. We are able to see and hear others, they can only see us. Any ideas please.

    For XP

Ok try this, Plug Mic in then

Start, Control Panel, Sounds Speech and Audio Devices, Sounds and Audio Devices,
    Voice Tab, Test Hardware.

    See how you go.
  • Tested hardware as recommended. Afraid that even though it confirms the device is working properly, on playback all voice is drowned out by high pitched feedback.

Right click the spealer Icon near the PCs clock then, open volume control
options, properties, recording ok then options advanced controls and only have
mic boost one selected.. If anymore probs get back and I will see if I can
suss it out by posting images of my controls so you can have the same so it
will all be back to default sound.

P.S just make sure tha Mic is in the correct socket
  • Followed advice. Sorry, but does not fix. All set-up as quoted. The WebCam has built in mic and is USB.

    Ok follow me on this.

Right click speaker Icon, Open Volume Control, Options, Properties, Playback
now tick all of the options there, OK, so they all appear on screen.

Now only 3D Depth and Microphone should be ticked Mute.

Now go back to Options Properties, Playback and only have these ticked.

    Volume Control
    Wave
    SW Synth
    CD Player
    Line In

    Click OK

Now Go to Options Properties, Recording and Tick all Of the Options there then click OK
so that all the options are onscreen and make sure only Stereo Mix is Ticked.

Now go back to options Properties, Recording and only have these ticked.

    TV Tuner Audio
    CD Player
    Line In
    Microphone

    Click Ok

If you do the above those are the default settings,

Now after that Go To Options Properties, Recording now take the tick out of Mute Microphone then OK. then close audio Properties and then see if its worked.
  • Thanks. Tried the settings 3 times and afraid that still getting feedback on playback. My wife (I'm on as her as she signed in earlier today when you kindly responded to her plea for help), sends her profuse thanks for all we have tried this evening. Shame that it has not yet solved the problem. My mind is spinning at this time and I'm going to pour a drop of single malt!! If you don't mind pondering this conundrum, will sign on in the morning again before departing to the office. Once more, many thanks for your help and patience.
