is there a connection between islamic and ethical investments?
yes, their investment exclusions are similar - islamic invesments exclude, amongst other things, alcohol, pornography, gambling, tobacco, armaments, areas many ethical funds also avoid0 -
Though I have no objection to !!!!!! provided it is legal or alchol or gambling.
Is it worth it from an investment point of view?0 -

My very limited knowledge of Islamic finance is that Islamic law prevents the payment of interest. Therefore the Islamic banking sector has to jump through some hoops to redefine the profit you receive as not being 'interest'. If you're not interested in the religious side it seems that you pay a big cost for doing this.
I haven't looked at exact what Islamic funds invest in, but last time I looked as some (12-18 months ago) their performance compared to the sector was fairly poor - consistently bottom quartile.0 -
The interest rate thing according to many experts is a con as it is interest in other means.
They do leave out key sectors and I don't entirely agree with their ethics. I may not smoke, drink or gamble but I see nothing wrong with it. I am willing to take a hit but only for the things I believe in.
I applied for an account with Triodos as I believe in their ethics. I would consider the ecology but it is too much hassle as the form is not clear and they have a 0845 number.0
