Entitlement to LSA on UK course, possibly GYH ?

Hello
apologies for posting here but the clerk seems unhelpful in my unit regarding answering questions that may involve money claims.
Im about to be going on a 4 month course in the UK, 145 miles away from my current UK establishment which is PAYD. The course location is not. I am in Z Type OR3 in current unit and will be in Z Type but unknown class in course unit. I do not want to be charged food and accommodation - I will provide my own food rather than be charged while on course.
I am also hoping to buy a house in the next 2 months.
Am I entitled to LSA as the clerks have said I need to prove my entitlement before they will enter it on JPA and there is nothing on the joining instructions.
Secondly if I buy this house it is 153 miles from my current unit and 104 miles from the course location.
What am I entitled to while on course?
Can I claim GYH or Council tax reduction in addition to LSA or instead of - what is better?
I am due posting at the end of the course and dont want to have to explain all of this to new clerks or worse have to pay back public debt.
Thank you very much.

right my advice is this
if you don't come home at weekends then you should get LSA
You will probably be charged food and accom (you can't just pay accom only I'm afraid)
Once you buy the house you will be entitled to GYH but you then won't be entitled to LSA.....our pay office to reduce messing up pay just keeps paying you GYH and not LSA as its about the same amount
If you are actually going to live at your new home then you should be entitled to a 25% discount from council Tax (only if you live alone though)
Once you buy your house you should only pay food but not both
summary
Without house you get LSA thats it...and pay food and accom plus IE (5 quid a day for phone calls etc)
With house you should claim GYH only NOT LSA and don't pay Accom but will pay food plus also claim IE
does that make sense??
Ps it might be worth asking if you can claim DS rate (about 25 quid now) for food and not pay food however its very unlikely they will allow this as you will be staying on camp...but if you don't ask eh!If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
From my experience, I was told that as I was posted/drafted to the course, even though it was temporary, it was still classed as a posting and therefore I would not be getting LSA. I did get GYH, which was considerably less than the LSA would have been.
However, I don't know if the information I was given was correct, as the Unit Personnel Office at my parent base appears to be staffed by a bunch of kids just out of school.......................:rolleyes:Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -
I thought you could only get posted for a minimal of six months....so they should have paid you LSAIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

As Cat has said only courses longer than 6 months should be classed as a posting0

As far as I know a posting is over 182 days. Have a look on JSP 752, its hard reading but there might be some more info there.

Anyway,
I always thought it went something like you received GYH(D) if you could travel home at the weekend, and if you cant it would be LSA.
Examples..
Based at Lossie, on a Seaking Q-course at St Mawgan. You just cant drive that on the weekend, so LSA is awarded.
Based at Wittering, on a Harrier Q-course at Cottesmore, You can commute that at weekends, and GYH(D) is awarded.0 -
Link works now thanks
it must be just our admin office...I must admit the guys that do get GYH agreed with the RAOWO its better to stay on GYH as its less likely pay gets messed up....I'm sure its different with other Corps etcIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly

Im also sure the RAOWO and other clerks prefer people to stay on GYH to avoid any extra work !
As Im not presently in receipt of GYH my question is essentially what am I better off with on the distances mentioned - but I am not too far away from going from 9 quid a day to 13 quid a day LSA so would prefer to rack up the days if there isnt much in it.
Even if I still buy I may NOT claim GYH but instead claim LSA if I can.
Thanks to all those who have posted so far but what are the actual rules for claiming LSA on UK courses and do course personnel get charged for food and accommodation in addition to their current charges ?
I will not be moving out of present accommodation as if I fail this course I am back to current unit.
I very much doubt whether pads would be paying for single accom and food at course location on top of their present accom charges at curent unit so why should singlies ?
Does anyone know the actual rules or references for Army personnel on courses claiming LSA. Thanks.0
