dont forget that while you are cooking in the microwave - boiled water from the kettle can be used to cook cous cous - just pour some in a bowl pour on boiling water until its an inch above the cous cous and cover tightly. leave for five minutes or so (until all the water is gone) then fluff with fork.
I love scrambled eggs done in the ding! you seem to get much more than in a saucepan! a couple of eggs in a bowl whisk well and add a splash of milk and a couple of dots of butter. put in micro and set to 2 or 3 mins, let cook for about 30 seconds then whisk it a bit, put back in and every 20 seconds stop and whisk it. when NEARLY cooked take it out and whisk it and add your salt, pepper and if you like a bit of grated cheese or fresh herbs. serve!0 -

I use my mw to cook bacon, mushrooms, potatoes and veg, fish, pasta and rice, make custard, gravy, sauces, scrambled eggs, and a chicken casserole-type thing which I often used to cook for my auntie; that's apart from the obvious scrambled eggs, jacket potatoes and choc cake!
I recently bought a mw steamer which is great for a small amount of veggies rather than using my big steamer, and I'm getting a mw rice cooker next month.
I use my microwave a lot, I currently don't have an oven or a hob and not particularly rushing to buy. The only thing I don't do in the mw is boiled eggs
eta, and meant to say Good Luck to you and your son, a new start for you both :T... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
