Hi
You mentioned a toaster? Does he have a kettle?
For example those really cheap noodles - 9p a pack in Sainsbury's can be "cooked" by putting them in a bowl or large mug and pouring boiling water over them. If push comes to shove, half a packet of cuppasoup made a bit thick makes a passable sauce with a bit of marg stirred in. I prefer mushroom or chicken cuppasoup for this to the the tomato-based ones.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Lots oif meals can be adapted to cook in the microwave, but you have to keep an eye on them.
A cheap recipe I got off this board can easily be done in the microwave: thin sliced potatoes layered in a pyrex dish with chopped tomatoes, onions, and cheese/random veg and microwave until all soft. Very tasty, can't think who posted it but it's brilliant.
Pasta and rice can be done in very deep pots but you need to keep an eye so they don't boil over. I generally give pasta 1-2 mins so it starts bubbling up high, leave for 2 mins, another 1-2 mins, then it's usually done. Same with lentils.
He could cook veg, rice and lentils together, drain then add curry sauce?
Just thought: Could he take advantage of the milk and more offer on at the minute? £10 worth of food for free could really help, he could get 15 eggs, 4 pints milk, box of cereal and loaf or two of bread. Scrambled egg on toast, anyone?Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

If he'll eat porridge, that's very good done in the microwave.
It's also very cheap AND filling - whether you have it morning, afternoon or evening.
Blob of jam/honey/syrup for extra sweetness if he's got a sweet tooth.0 -
Hi bensonsmum,
As your thread has dropped down the board I've added it to the thread that rosieben linked to, to keep the suggestions together.

Hi all,
Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for either a jam or syrup sponge pudding which can be done in the microwave?
Many thanks in advance.0 -
Large ish pyrex pudding basin, greased.
In sep bowl make up a fairly loose sponge/cake batter using .....
6oz S/R flour,
3oz marg,
3oz sugar,
2 eggs
Milk if required
Pinch spice if wanted.
In greased bowl - 1-2 rounded tbspn jam/Golden syrup in base.
pour cake mixture on top.
Cling film the bowl tightly.
Microwave on high for 3 mins, check if cooked (can see through bowl!), if not increase in 30 sec increments.
Whilst syrup sponge is nuking make ASDA 6p instant custard!
Eat!
You'd never guess I did this pretty often!)
