When is the best time for reduced food over Christmas?

My nerve didn't hold !!
I have just returned home, with an Easy carve British Turkey, with Cranberry and Orange stuffing, serves 10.
This was from Asda, reduced from £30 to £20.
No doubt I will see it at £1.99 tomorrow - but at least I will sleep soundly tonight.
I had one of these "Easy Carve" Turkeys last year from Sainsburys - so it will be a good opportunity to compare.
Sainsburys hadn't reduced any of their Turkeys tonight, and Tesco only knocked a couple of pounds off, so I am satisfied ( until I see the price tomorrow and kick myself)
Also managed to get some Fillet Steak in Asda at about 75% off, so that will be nice for tea tomorrow:D
I just need fresh veg and some Apricot stuffing and I can chill out tomorrow ready for mid-night mass, then home to the mulled wine (courtesy of the slow cooker !:p)
Happy last minute bargain shopping all :T0 -
Do you think it'd be too risky not getting my turkey til christmas eve then maybe getting it really cheap? I wanted a turkey crown but I might end up with something rubbish if I wait. Oooh can't decide. I don't want to end up with no turkey! :rotfl:
As a family we're not too fussed if we have chicken or turkey (only 3 of us though) so I usually buy a large fresh chicken - got that yesterday - but I will see what I get reduced, if anything, today. If I get a turkey or a crown the chicken will go in the freezer.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Was at my local Asda at around 4.30pm. They were in the process of reducing what's left to nice round prices - 5p, 10p, 20p, etc - until they gave up thanks to some ignorant, arrogant and disrespectful individuals demanding they reduce things again. It shows how much a "please", a " thank you" and basic manners can go.
Basically I managed to grab:
a 750g pack of mushrooms for 5p - was £1.36
a wholemeal stay fresh loaf for 10p - was 72p
a 2.5kg bag of potatoes for 10p - was 72p
a 500g bag of sprouts for 10p - was £1.58
a 6 pack of WW prune yohurts for 20p - was £1.97
a punnet of grapes for 20p - was £1.98
£6.76 worth for 65p! Not bad. The best bit was bread, mushrooms, sprouts and potatoes were on my list.0 -
Blimey David, that's not bad, is it...??
I got a 2.5kg bag of spuds from tesco a few months ago for 20p and I thought that was a bargain..>!!Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
I got a pack of 2 small whole chickens from my local Iceland reduced from £4 to £1, total weight 1.6 kg. funny thing was, the sell by date was 31.12.2008....!!! Some disgruntled temporary Christmas staff getting finished up, perhaps??
I should've been happy with that, but my next door neighbour went half an hour later and got the bloody things for 50p!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

MINE DID :j
At 16:59 Christmas Eve I'm in Morrisons (closing 17:00) and still without a turkey - just wondering if I should grab a frozen one (about 4.4kg for £15) or dare I try somewhere else - not even sure when Asda or Sainsburys were closing .....
.... if I returned home without a turkey ... doesn't even bear thinking about it
Anyway bit the bullet and left without one heading for Sainsburys.
At 17:10 glad to see a lot of cars in the car-park and the lights still on - turned out they were open till 18:00
Even happier when I saw about 100 fresh turkeys still in the chillers and over the moon to see reduced stickers.
However still TOO expensive for me to just get one and leave.
Half an hour later and a further reduction applied sees me leaving with TWO HUGE 20lbs birds (originally £42 each) for £8 each.
SORTED !!!

i dont know about the asda`s fish, but morrisons fresh fish is what it says on the tin, fresh, not frozen, so is ok to freeze, i would have thought that all the supermarkets are the same on this, DaveTake every day as it comes!!0 -
