The shops are only shut for two days.

Bring back Sunday closing, they'd be more bargain opportunities every Saturday afternoon.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • Remember this year it will be for 4 days (Thurs/Fri/Sat & Sun) that most people will be settling down for Christmas, so the stores will be keen to shift what they can.

Who do you know will be going to shop on Saturday at your local Tesco?

I read someone in the thread saying they bought up the fish. Chances are the fish had already been frozen so refreezing isn't a good idea.

  • Your right in the way that some people have to stuff their trollys so high for the xmas period. Really the shops are only closed for 1 day, tesco express and metros are open again on Boxing day, and if you did forget anything you could always go to the petrol station on xmas day itself, there is normally 1 open somewhere.

But I digress from the original post. Best time to go get bargins. Anytime from about midday onwards.

i went to somerfield in student area of bristol yesterday loads of reductions because the computer doesnt know the students have gone home .
therefore the store has loads of stock and no customers
  • I'd go just after lunch, by an hour before closing most stuff has gone in our local Tescos.
  • Last year went to Marks & Spencer Christmas eve 1 hour before closing, hung around to see if they would reduce anything. Ten minutes before closing they came out with loads of food which the staff promptly collected!

Here is a purse of moneys... which I'm not going to give to you. :D
  • Plan your route on 24th to coincide with store closing times.

I went to the stores websites , clicked store locator/finder and checked closing times. All 3 below i checked closing up for 25th and 26th Dec.

Surprised to see most Tesco in London closing at 9pm on 24th. ( even 10pm for one Express). Morrisons are 5pm and Asda is 6pm.

What times each store decides to reduce depends on the managers , but a fish manager likes to go home early, and same for other dept managers, so reduction timings can vary from branch to branch. You just have to be a bit cheeky and ask " will these be reduced later or sooner today".

    Have fun.

Waitrose start to discount after about midday, and then about 2 hours before closing, but stock for discounting will be very low by then.

I did notice that John Lewis (CMK) have started to arrange displays for the Sale, and some prices are starting to creap in, might be worth a look last thing on Christmas Eve.

I have just taken a Camcorder back that I bought a week ago, as I found out it was going to be £150 cheap in 4 days time! They did give me a full refund and didn't argue when I told them why.
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

It used to be the policy for M&S to sell reductions to staff only and give food to Homeless and Drop In Centres.
They are now reducing food on a regular daily basis so perhaps this Xmas will be different and worth a visit - Iwould guess around 3-4 pm Xmas Eve.:T

I just overheard a couple of managers talking Turkey.:D
I gather it is very much down to each store and each manager when they do reductions, and by how much.
Todays managers were discussing when to reduce Turkeys - or risk being left with hundreds on their hands.
I have scouted round my local Sainsburys, Waitrose, Co-op and Tesco in last couple of days, and ALL their shelves are heaving with fresh Turkeys, crowns, free-range, huge great monsters to feed 12 to small birds for 2.
Fingers crossed someone has something left for me tomorrow, otherwise I will be defrosting the Chicken I got from M&S 2 eat for £10 deal;)
I managed to get a beautiful bird last year from Sainsburys at half price, but I'm sure that was not as late as Christmas Eve. It was all prepared ready for me. In its own oven tray etc. Just set the alarm clock for 8am, crawl downstairs to put bird in the oven, crawl back to bed, and bobs your uncle.
Tasted yummy - all the better for being half price, and much better quality than I could have afforded if full price

Dare I hold my nerve :o:confused:

Lets hope I get one tonight, otherwise I will never get to sleep worrying I have missed the boat and kids will have a Turkeyless Christmas.
