Sunday 21/12/08 What small dfw things have you done today???

:D When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.:D

Today I will:
  • check online banking
  • move some cash into savings
  • update spreadsheets
  • make a loaf in breadmaker
  • put some coins in sealed pot
  • storecupboard lunch and tea
  • go to costco for turkey/beef for xmas dinner and also for oldies xmas meal.
  • wrap up last few pressies
Hi everyone,
Still feeling a bit crappy here with the lurgy so not as productive as usual. Hope you all have a good day, just three more days at work then I can collapse in a big heap:D
Hi to all the regulars, Lilly glad that things finally starting to get sorted for you - about time too. Andan - looking forward to your posts on the £4000 challenge next year:D

Hugs to all the lurgies and hi to any new posters:D

See you later.

    Hello everyone

Played double daily scratchcard on Littlewoods today and won 30p :)

    Entered lots of comps

Making Xmas dinner today and staying in so hopefully a NSD (unless I've forgotten to buy something important!)

That's all for today, nothing banking wise cause it's Sunday.

Have good days all, not long till Xmas!
  • ............. and yet another £1 to GMCard.
Also going to bank a load of cheques later and the cash takings from my business. I've been a bit lazy with this recently but the important thing is that I haven't dipped into it.
Got to buy an Xmas present today. Rather more than I expected to pay but I've been asked to get the bigger present and call it a combined Xmas/next birthday present (birthday is in January). Suits me. Will also make next year's 4 grand challenge marginally easier.
I've had the odd Xmas tip from some of the custies too.
  • Gooooooooooooood Morning everyone:D

Me and OH just had a very lazy day - feeling very smug that all xmas present stuff etc was finished several weeks ago! It was a lovely day and if noone minds, I think I will post my very short list from yesterday as well as today's!

  • I've reviewed all my survey sites to see which ones I have built up anything useful at.
I've checked out my list of online moneymaking web sites and will think about how to maximise my returns from these / prioritise my efforts
I've reviewed some music on slice the pie
I found house/contents insurance for £100 less that my renewal quote and went through the small print to make sure it was comparable - it is.
I plan to introduce Mrs Jim to the joys of one poll and other survey sites and give her a bill to clear by her own efforts 50/50 if need be - anything to motivate her.
Introduced my daughter to slice the pie so she can make her own pocket money extras.
Checked the electric meter v my estimated bill and realised its under estimated! And in deficit! So need to work out how to use less or else hope that the price of electric comes down (we use about the same a y r strangely)
Will plan how best to use on line opportunities to earn a little. I gave up daily clicks recently as my time is worth more than that now its down to 1p a time. I still use cashback sites and homepage friends and do well from them.
Now I'm going to have a break for housework and then come back and plough through as many pages here as I can looking for ideas / inspiration.

What I really want to find out about - and am not sure where to ask - is about having your own small business, be it car booting or whatever. I was a deadstock merchant 20+ years ago and a recession is a good time for dead stock purchase. I seem to remember that you could offset losses against your employment income, provided you genually tried to make the business work which meant that so long as you could live with all the accounting, provided it was a "small" business, it was largely risk free provided you didnt go crazy and start splashing silly cash. And if you made a profit - well I'd be happy to pay a million in taxes every year:rotfl: . Not sure where to begin checking this out though as 20+ years is a long time and I cant imagine that iot has not changed a bit in that time.
  • Sophiesmum and Urg123 - hope you feel better soon :grouphug:

Miss Piggy - I hope the little piglet is having a lovely birthday! x

Pips Mum -You are getting so close to your due date! Sending lots of love x

Mickey Mouse - I missed you too! Especially your "goooooood morning's!" x
