Wanadoo - Wanta opinion!

I want a broadband connection that is at least 2 megs and comes with a wireless modem... the Wanadoo package seems quite good... 14.99 for the first six months then 17.99 for the rest of the year for up to 8 megs (if it's availiable in my area). It's an extra £4 a month for the wireless modem, but only for the last 6 months (a wireles modem for £26).
This sounds like a good deal to me... the only thing is that its a 2 gig download limit and i have to sign up for their telephone package for 12 months.
Anyone had any experiance of Wanadoo?

I've been on Wanadoo since thet were Freeserve and had almost perfect service. I was on their £27.99 unlimited 512k service for ages and when they started to offer the 1mb/2mb deals, I resisted changing because I wasn't sure of my usage and didn't want to restrict myself.
Anyway, got letter other day saying I could upgrade to 2mb for FREE and stay on unlimited downloads!
5 days later system upgraded and super fast downloads now.
Personally I would recommend them.0 -
Same here. Was with Freeserve before they became Wanadoo, and about a year ago went on broadband. I have had NO problems whatsoever with them.
They have a 24/7 technical support line but it's on a 09 number so it's very expensive, but to be fair they don't drag on and on if you call and will help as quickly as possible. The few times I've had to ring was to clarify something that I was not doing right and they helped me completely.
Sometimes it's worth paying a little bit more but have peace of mind, as my computer and internet are essential for my work.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
I was with Freeserve from the start but have had huge problems since Wanadoo took over. I would advise anyone to steer well clear.
Wanadoo contacted me saying that I was exceeding my capped download usage. It was news to me that they had any cap on my usage. When I looked into it I found the heavy use had happened when my son, a computer sciences undergraduate had been at home on holiday, downloading his projects from university.
They then offered me a free upgrade to 8mb broadband at "no increase" on my £28 a month subscription. I happily agreed until I found that the modem they had supplied was capable of a maximum download speed of 0.6 mb !
Then my home broadband connection failed in December so I rang Wanadoo and was promised reconnection by Christmas Eve. We rely on internet contact with friends and family abroad. Our 18 year old is at university in the USA. It is also vital for my work.
By January we were still disconnected. Wanadoo blamed BT. I made over 40 national rate phone calls before Customer Services in India admitted it was Wanadoo's problem all along and that they had done nothing to correct it. I cancelled my subscription.
However the problems continued when I tried to sign up to a new ISP.
Wanadoo refused to give me a MAC code to transfer to another provider and for over a month now they have blocked my BT line so no other broadband supplier can use it.
Wanadoo also sent me a Hotmail message from Customer Services asking me why I was cancelling. I completed the online form and sent it back via the hotlink on the form. Surprise, surprise - it bounced back with "No such address"!
Wanadoo have displayed corporate incompetence, malice and mendacity, and I would advise anybody to avoid them like the plague. I have of course made a formal complaint to Ofcom.0
