Birthday Cards....

Not sure if this is the best place to post it but I've had my first money saving idea (so if someone has beat me too it!! Ignore this post!).
But was in Matahlan today waiting for my mum to exchange an item, when I clocked there Gift Cards (that you put the vouchers in) I had a look and thought they would make brilliant Birthday cards. There front a just a simple designed and the insides are blank (I checked Next's but they have preprinted text in them) and the voucher cuts are very small (could even be covered up with some stickers?).
I mainly thought of taking a few for at work a we have to do birthday cards for each over and the money tends to come out of 1 persons pocket which isn't fair! But as the Matalan look so discreet I ended up taking a few more for myself!!
I hope someone else might find this useful, could save you a few pennies!

You only need a card if you make a purchase in the store.
There free as your meant to buy the vouchers to put in them! I picked up 12 today and got no dodgy looks, but obviously there near the tills!!! But I took some near the exchange section were no one was!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but this sounds like theft, rather than a MoneySaving tip.
It sounds like the cards are on display so that the customer can chose a design before they reach the till.........where they will pay for a voucher to be inserted inside.
If the display of cards does not state 'help yourself' or 'free' then taking any amount without paying for a voucher may result in the customer being stopped by security staff.............and being accused of shoplifting.10 Dec 2007 - Led Zeppelin - I was there. :j [/COLOR]:cool2: I wear my 50 (gold/red/white) blood donations pin badge with pride. It's not theft.. there's no price on these cards or even a barcode!.. they are free - that's common knowledge! I guess you've never seen or used these card before!!??!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 092

My belief is that they are only free IF you are buying a voucher so I've just phoned Matalan and asked, and they've confirmed that they do consider it as theft and would consider prosecuting if they caught anyoneI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I take it then you didn't put the cards in your basket when you went though the tills
So how do you know they were free? 0 -
