OK I'll ask. What's MPH and please don't say Miles per Hour, unless that's what it is and I will look really stupid.

My local council bans abbreviations (OK some will say a stupid and pedantic example of local authority behaviour) in their council papers and discussion but perhaps something to be said for it here?
  • Thats better, looking forward to having a beer with you in the New Year.

Am I the only one who sees bullying going on right under our noses here?

Evidently Jetski is not allowed to say what he wants to say because Pickles will try and get him into trouble if he does. Of course it's ok that Pickles is always logging on and posting at work, in his highly responsible job as a rail planner (whatever that is) I'm sure that's ok down the docks, but daring to give an opinion is obviously another matter.

So Pickles, you can add bullying to your cv along with impersonating a banker as Cranston, stalking carolt and being an all round @sshole!

No, you are not the only one.

Remember, Pickles, if you get heavy with Jetski he can come right here and get loads of free advice about his rights in employment law.

I, for one, am grateful to Jetski. People like Pickles, pretending everything is hunky dory, are not doing the rest of us any favours.
    YouGov: £50 and £50 and £5 Amazon voucher received;
PPI successfully reclaimed: £7,575.32 (Lloyds TSB plc); £3,803.52 (Egg card); £3,109.88 (Egg loans)
  • No, you are not the only one.

There are reasons why Jetski feels the way he does but I am to much of a gentleman to post them on here, also if things are so bad between us why would we be in personal contact and go out and have a beer together?
I am not pretending everything is hunky dory but am prepared to tell the true story even if you lot do not like hearing it because it goes against the depression that you doom mongers want everyone to believe is true.

I have no problem with people reporting facts but I do not like people changing what is actually happening to make up complete fiction.
I have mentioned that Jetski has other issues and as always I am available in my own time as always to discuss and help Jetski to achieve what Jetski wants to.

Mewbie it stands for Moves per Hour and this is what we are measured against all our competitors.

Then you deny that things are bad at the docks then? Because everything I am hearing says things are dire:
    No overtime
    Lorries standing idle
Companies, large and small, going under
    Shipping lines in trouble
Redundancies planned and people already being let go
    Recruitment bans
Half the usual number of ships coming in
    Etc etc etc

Feel free to put me straight but that all sounds pretty bad to me.

I never said it was a bad place to work and I realize it has given me everything I have, but at the end of the day I've worked some long hard unsociable hours the same as you to achieve that. Also it wouldn't be quite the same if I was to never see your happy smiling face around the place :D
The productivity level has increased due to the economic down turn in trade and the yard not being so congested ,also the ships coming in are not having the huge turn arounds they have in the past leading to many job & knock situations which gets the boat off the quay quicker. You know yourself when there's been high volumes in the past we can never achieve the same results, and shouldn't we not easily be able to achieve 30MPH on our biggest high tech vessels in stead of 21MPH.
We do achieve rates of 30MPH on the biggest high tech vessels week in week out but as you know the rate you are quoting (21MPH) is the current weekly rate which is measured across all of our terminals including very old vessels that are not contructed in such a way to allow high MPH rates.
It was only a few weeks ago that a new record of 424 moves on one Ship to Shore Gantry was achieved in a 12 Hour Shift(by your own shift on Trinity).
I'm glad you think so, try asking the shipping line who's been visiting the aforementioned terminal in question for many years, when the terminal had it's own dedicated gangs the vessels would achieve 25-30MPH week in week out, last week when that line came in one gang achieved 8MPH and the other gang 11MPH,that is abysmal in body's books and you would think management would want to know the reasons why, but because they have caused the situation they dont seem to care.
You dont seem to mention that those rates you mention (25-30MPH) were only achieved when yourselfs were given job and knock and that you would only be given 200 to 250 moves in a 12 hour shift.
The vessels you work on your terminal hardly ever exceeded 400 moves which is dwarfed on Trinity where each gantry would have 1000 moves.
It is a totally different ball game to try and compare these two terminals.
Going back to where you mention that one gang only did 8MPH, there would be several reasons why this could have been so and when I return to work I will search through the VPR's and find out why.
Perhaps you will explain to the readers on this forum why you feel as you do, like I have said before look forward to going out with you for a drink in the new year.
    Best Rgds

Untrue and if you ask any of the hourly and staff paid they will confirm this.
    Lorries standing idle
We do not use Lorries ourselfs.
Companies, large and small, going under
Please do be so kind and supply names so that I can confirm.
    Shipping lines in trouble
    Likewise please confirm names.
Redundancies planned and people already being let go
There are no Redundancies at the PORT.
    Recruitment bans
This is true at the moment the PORT is not taking on staff from outside the company. But as always there are several jobs available for people to train in different skill sets and to move up the career ladder.
Half the usual number of ships coming in
Not totally true, the shipping lines are using larger vessels which means they do not need their smaller ones.
    Etc etc etc

Feel free to put me straight but that all sounds pretty bad to me.
I agree with you that these are worrying times but the companies that do survive this government induced recession will come out leaner and stronger and you will find several new sucessful people will emerge.

    Pickles;
Even though you've changed this since I quoted you, I think you have failed to pick up on Jetski's remark about seeing your smiling face being heavily laced with sarcasm.

    Jetski, much respect for subtlety.
