3-6 months ... never under-estimate the bosses' abilities to really string out the pain for everybody.

No quick "here's the list/this is if you're going or staying", no, let all the workers wake up each morning wondering ... and twitch every time their boss' phone rings or they close the door and talk in hushed terms.

I love the thinking behind this type of decision.
  • A suggestion, perhaps those interested and/or involved could meet on this thread this evening to discuss and share information and support one another?

As there seems to be some nervousness about speaking openly, new logins would seem to be the order of the day, thoughts anyone?

!!!!!!!!!! No wonder the docks is in trouble, every one who is supposed to be working down there is dreaming up new logins and faffing around on MSE! Log off and move some boxes around - you'll learn nothing on here.

And if any of the Felixstowe workers want to keep me in the loop it would be very much appreciated!

I feel so out on a limb it is unbelieveable....

I don't mind private messages either if you are uncomfortable putting it in the public view.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • New user not a new log in .

I know someone who works at the Port and is obviously very worried about their job . I was seaching the web for info when the thread was highlighted .

Cant really add much more at this point .
As others have suggested , it seems people will be told which Departments will be restructured and then they have a nice period of `torture` until they find out their fate .
I suppose the Company could claim they are giving workers the chance to look elsewhere or whatever , but the truth is it will be very difficult for people sacked to find anywhere else in the near future .

I would imagine when the workers concerned are informed their Departments are going to be affected the news will leak into the mainstream . Doesnt appear to be much news available generally .
  • Thanks Lear Jet, does anyone have any idea of numbers yet?

PN, Firstly everyone who is at risk knows already(they were delivered a letter to their home). Secondly The reason our union agreed for things to be done this way is so that the people who are at risk get plenty of help to either find another job at the Port or the best possible support to gain another job elsewhere.
I can not say to much more but it will all become clearer after 8.30 Sat Morning.

If you know what's happening, why aren't you sharing?

I suggest you don't actually know anything; you didn't know this was coming, even though I told you, and you have been behind the curve throughout as far as I can see.
  • Vt I know exactly what is going on and have the exact numbers if I post on here you know what i would be leaving myself open to!

    Yeah? Since when?
And, Mastermind, that's why I suggested new logons.

To be fair all firms keep their cards close to their chests when this sort of thing is happening.

Partly because rumours among employees can destroy productivity, and partly through sheer incompetence.

They would have been crucified by half if they ruined Xmas, while the other half would have welcomed notice so they didn't overspend in the run-up to Xmas - a no win situation.

I'm not part of the Felixstowe situation at all, but on a similar vein we were told in September that we would have 25% cut in staff, until it was postponed when they realised they had not signed a rather important contract that would secure the 75%...

...Just before Xmas we were told the signing had taken place and on 5th January it would be full steam ahead with 25% cuts again...this week? Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

HR departments can be clueless, Directors can be too busy to worry about staff issues, might even be that with the downturn they are reviewing the review to make it 50% or somesuch...

    Good luck to all affected.
