  • I have not had a problem with Argos, I bought a camera and it went funny with a fuzzy spot on the lense, I took it back to Argos and they switched it straight away  very impressed with this service completely

Argos are asking you to go away to Sony because it's the simplest solution if you arrange it through Sony yourself, that's all. If you're not happy with that, then they will, if they absolutely have to, take the TV and arrange for it to be repaired on-site. This usually takes a lot longer to organise and actually get it fixed, hence why going via Sony is usually easier. The contract does, as you say, lie with Argos - and Argos are advising that you can get a repair with Sony, which will be quicker, or, if you argue this point, you'll get an on-site repair. Either way, you'll get a repair, not a replacement; feel free to point out to your local manager that they should in the very, very last instance take it back in store, but it is simply because there is for one no room at the store to keep a repair item usually, it'll take longer to complete and is inconveniant for all parties, that they're telling you to go away and arrange it through the manufacturer. (Which is usually a very quick process.)

And as was said - you're getting the TV fixed, how is there a problem? And what are you going to achieve by going through small claims - the TV will get fixed either way!

I'll gladly help with any queries - but if you have any problems and need to get some real guidance, go back to your local store or contact customer services (argos.co.uk).
