Has anyone else found Argos Customer Services to be really stupid?

I have never used Argos before for home delivery but needed to get an Xmas pressie for my mum and only they had in stock so I ordered it.
I still can't get over what has happened, and just have to share my experience with someone! lol
In the middle of November I placed my order, it came on time but the seal was broken and I had to ring them up and request someone come and take it back, they said they were out of stock so they couldn't replace it but would ring me when they got a new delivery and send one out, apparently it would be about 7-10days... no problem I thought.
A while later I decided to go on their website and register my email address to be notified when it came back in stock as I didn't suppose they would bother calling me.
Next week I get an e-mail the item is back in stock as the woman advised it probably would be... no phone call. So I called them again and a man advised me that he would arrange for another to be sent out and as I had already paid there would be no further charge.
It turned up on time, very impressed but still no phone call from the original woman but I wasn't worried as I had what I wanted.
I since wrapped the present and it's been sitting under the tree for ages.. yesterday I get a voicemail from the woman from Argos (5 weeks later) apologising that they have not had any more stock in since I made my inital call (Erm, well considering I got an email and phoned up and had it redelivered... thats a lie!) that they would have to cancel my order but would issue me a full refund.
So I rang up again and gave the nice man my order number and asked him the status of my order, he also said we need to issue you a refund as we haven't been able to supply your order :rotfl:
Anyway, although I did considered keeping schtum I knew the guilt would consume me

So did you have two delivered (ie. one faulty) and a refund?
I think a lot of companies seem to make these weird errors. Not long ago I ordered something from MFI, then later was told it was out of stock so I had a refund. Then about 2 weeks later the item had been slung over the fence whilst I was out. Item in good knick and def. got a refund as well.0 -
We've bought LOADS of stuff from Argos & Homebase, since we started our refuurb & getting new houshold items & furniture. It's been like starting all a-fresh, here!
There have been several things go wrong, too - ongoing sofa probs, but that's another story.
They seem to have an EXCELLENT customer service team & attitude, UNTIL... you present them with something that can't be sorted from their script, of 'we'll replace it & pick it up' situation.
Then it involves talking to lots people, writing letters, until, eventually, you get someone with enough authority to sort it properly!!
At thios level, again, they really do a good job!!
So, KEEP TRYING, is the answer, to anyone having dificulties, with them!!

i have to say that i have found the customer service to be very helpful to me,
i won a boys bike in a christmas raffle which was no good to me so i took it back to argos and asked them if they could change it to a girls bike because my great grandaughter will be two next year and it will be her first bike and they changed it for me with no problems at all and because the bike that i wanted was cheaper than the boys bike they gave me a refund of £15 on a gift card,
so i have no complaints with them as i could have been stuck with a boys bike that was no good to me, and now my great grandaughter has got a bike for next christmas,0 -
i had a nightmare with them too over a washing machine thats been fixed 3 times and every time broken again as soon as the repair man is out the door.
i finally got them to agree to a replacement and thats only because they thought they had me out the 3 way conversation and i could hear them arguing, i kept quiet until i'd heard enough, then let them know i was still there
need to get on actually and tell them which one i want it replaced for as its been a few weeks and ive not had the chance to sort it yet... wish me luck - sounds like im going to need it0 -
Firstly - had a wardrobe that had a part faulty, almost completely put together. So I rang for a replacement part for a drawer. Sorry madam can't do that take it all apart and send it all back and we'll send you a new one.
My reply - you must be **** joking, took me 4 hours to glue and screw the thing together collect it and take it away. Oh they said, by the way you have to smash it up and put it into a box, we can't take it back when it's all put together.
I must admit I had fun breaking it up and taking out my frustrations on it. Four attempts later I finally got it collected. Still awaiting the refund 4 weeks later.
Secondly,, was due 2 £10 vouchers via the 2 orders put in for home delivery. One for wardrobe, sofa and bed, one for a butterfly table. I have been trying to get these vouchers for the past 6 weeks. Today tis come to light they think I've returned the table!!!! I can't have a voucher for that order as I've returned it. News to me cos I was sitting at it reading the email.
I've given in and am writing to the MD, along with a log of all the laughable replies to emails, all of which reflect that their staff can't read simple English.
I will never ever buy from them again0 -
Yes I do find them incredibly stupid!
I ordered an Xbox 360 deal for my Husband, all for home delivery and it was available before I placed my order. I went through the checkout process then got to the acknowledgement screen which said only the Xbox was available and none of the deal. The deal ended that day, so I called customer services to see what they could do but they werent helpful at all apart from telling me they could refund and "you will not be able to take advantage of this deal". I checked again after the call and the items were still showing as available for home delivery so I called back and spoke to someone else who couldnt help but was getting a little aggravated with me.
I ended up emailing Home Retail Group, the bigger company Argos are part of, and explained to them and sent screenshots of the website still showing these items were available. I got a call the next morning from the MD who said since the deal was finished all she could do was send vouchers to the cost of the extra items included in the deal so that I could still "get the deal". She sent me a £130 gift card to put towards the money for the Xbox and I got it a few days later.
In the end we didnt get the whole deal, just part of it as there was a better deal on so we managed to save money too!
So I do agree the customer services are stupid, but this lady was a great help. I didnt expect to received anything at all so I was quite surprised with her call, and especially surprised when I actually got the giftcard!

Where did you find the email for home retail group? I've had yet another email from Argos which ignores the whole point of my contacting them.0

I'm sure I've mentioned it before (a hundred times!) Ordered a matress from Argos direct? got a delivery date, so booked day off work to recieve, asked a neighbour to look out for it while I took the old one to the tip (on day of delivery).... Matress didn't come!, rang customer line (a service is the wrong word!) told they couldn't make it, day off work and no matress, very professional.0

I don't think that problems are limited to Argos unfortunately. It seems that with these large companies the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
In the spirit of Christmas and all that - I think it's worth remembering that it's generally not the fault of the particular customer service agent you're dealing with; but the processes which the agent has to rely on. I work on a helpdesk and get irate customers calling me all sorts of names even though I try all ways to help them but I physically can't do what they want me to do even if I know it makes sense."a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."0 -
