Has anyone else found Argos Customer Services to be really stupid?

    Hi,

I bought a freezer from Argos in November,I had a day off work for delivery. it didn't work.

I agreed to a repair rather than a new freezer because there were none in stock.

The extremely dense repair man (who kept calling it a fridge!) needed a part. The part was unavailable until January. That was day 2 off work.

I rang Argos and asked for an exchange. They wouldn't agree because it wasn't environmentally friendly!?!?

I got a bit irritated - they agreed to an exchange and were going to ring and arrange a delivery/collection time the next day. I checked they now had some in stock. They did.

No-one rang. I rang them. None in stock. I was asked to wait until February for stock.

I got very irritated and had a refund (not yet issued). They collected the freezer - day 3 off work.

My new freezer came from Curry's today - No day off work needed.

5 weeks after I bought the original one from Argos I have no refund no freezer and 3 days from work.

I don't think Argos know what customer service is!!!

Thanks very much, emailed them and got a call this morning. They're sending me both the vouchers I'm due plus a cheque for £50 to cover annoyance and waiting in. Not ideal but better than a kick in the teeth
  • i too have had problems with argos over the christmas.

ordered 3 items online to be delivered, and on 23rd dec two of the items they delivered three of each, they also charged me for them.

phoned customer services and after 1/2 hour, after first being told it was my fault (which it was not) and then being told that the order was not in my name!! they agreed to collect the goods and refund me. they said the items would be collected on the 29th dec, but they came on the 24th dec and collected them.

and after phone calls to their customer service and emails ( which they dont always answer) the refund has gone into my account today 13/feb.

with service like this it will be a long time before i use them again:mad:

On the subject of having 2 items delivered, my friend has had an issue with Amazon ( I know this thread is about Argos but thought it relevant)

About 18 months ago she ordered an item and got 2 order confirmation emails and 2 dispatch emails and 2 of the item delivered! .Only charged once. She called Amazon who apologised and told her they had corrected the system and it wouldnt happen again and there was no need to return the item!

A few months later she ordered another item, same thing happened, she called again.

Since then she has ordered about 12 or 13 items over the past 18 months and each time the same has happened!

Recently she got 2 classic ipods!

But shes always worried that they will suddenly realise and charge her.

Thats the sort of customer service I would like!

    sorry to go off topic

They cannot just suddenly charge you, they have to contact you first.

  • I too have had problems with Argos. I must of sent 8 or 9 e-mails explaining that one of the cars from my sons Roary Racetrack had stopped working. Could they send me a replacement car rather then me taking the whole (very large) box on the bus back to store?!!!

Got 9 reply's all of which said things to the effect of please return item with proof of purchase and in its original packaging / box back to your local store. They will be happy to help.

It didn't seem to matter how i worded my query they still sent a generic response. How irritating

Last e-mail sent to them all in capital letters. PLEASE REFER TO MY ORIGINAL E-MAIL.

Hooray a response which was relevant and helpful (well relevant anyway):T
  • I had a big problem with Argos customer services and took the advice from this website to email Home retail group with my problem. I was contacted the next day and within 24hrs my item was collected/refunded and I was sent a 30.00 cheque for my inconvenience! How's that for good service.
  • So far, so stupid with Argos. Bought a 32 inch Sony flat screen TV from Argos 31 days ago, stopped getting digital TV a few days ago - It's not the aerial etc as a small Sony TV works fine if plugged into same aerial socket. Wife rang customer services yesterday, told couldn't have refund as over 28 days - take it to branch . The two of us heaved it into Argos branch today. Manager wouldn't replace or accept it for refund - Sony's contract with Argos stipulates Sony goes to customer's home and tries to fix. Wasted my breath till I was blue in the face explaining my contract in law is with Argos not Sony, so their agreement has nothing to do with me, and that I'm out at work so don't want home visit, just leave TV with them and they fix it. Couldn't get Manager off his script and he eventually suggested I ring Trading Standards. Am about to email Argos with letter threatening small claim if they don't sort within 14 days, with copy to credit card company as jointly/ severally liable.

There is no point threatening Small Claims Court this early, it won't go anywhere. The Sale of Goods Act allows Argos to attempt repair, but they have to arrange it for you rather than make you go to Sony, but if Sony want to make a home visit then you will have to take a day off work.
