  • Britax do one that you can swap around so it faces rearwards or forwards, its not cheap though at £250, I've just bought one for my son, hoping its worth the money!

I have this one :D ... its the best pram I have ever had ( we currently have 3 for our daughter and I had 4 for my son) however they are big, they are bulky, and they are hard to fit in the boot of your every day car. Definately not good for grannie to fold for on the bus as they come apart in 2 pieces. I would however recommend this pram to the world and his wife :D

2 of my friends have had a rear facing pushchair.

One was a silver cross and the other friend had a jane(not sure of models). Good for first 2 months, but both babies had pram rage and wanted to be looking forward....HTH. They spent around £500 plus each.

I bought a maclaren Techno from the start(ok for newborn). It cost £120. It's interesting that most Mummies of my group have gone on to buy this/similar within a few months, after spending loads on a fancy system-baby not liking rear facing, too heavy, impractical generally..so this is something you might want to consider. They now wish they hadn't forked out loads initially for a pram which is now not used so much.

Good luck. I know the pushchair debate is a big thing, but think cost/practicality/where & how you will use it/think longer term too:D

I did the same thing had a maclaren techno from birth as it was lightweight and allowed my baby to 'see the world', I had heard of so many people who spent loads on a travel system just to then buy an umbrella fold a little while later. I also used a sling sometimes and didn't really use the pushchair much at all for the first 3 months. Everytime she goes in her buggy she tends to go straight to sleep anyway!
I really did debate this issue with myself as I did like the idea of having them facing me, however once their a bit bigger most babies like to see what's going on in the world rather than 'boring' mum who they see all day! ha ha!
I think that it depends how long you use your pushchair at a time. If they are in it a lot then it may have a negative effect on their language, but my daughter is only in hers for around an hour maximum, and I talk to her constantly the rest of the time so I think she will be OK!
  • I have two pushchairs - a modern forward facing one from Mothercare and a Cosatto 3 in 1. If I'm going to town in the car then I take the buggy but for walks around the village I use the Cosatto. With this one she's facing me and we can chat as we go along. I think young babies like facing their mums/carers but older children like to see where they are going and what's going on.
  • I agree with Juicy_Tube that the pushchair debate is a big thing, On the subject of money saving, when I was looking for a pushchair on ebay I was astounded that there are women out there who are pram addicts and spend hundreds and hundreds on one only to go off it and spend a similar amount on another, only to end up not liking that!
I spent a grand total of £35 on my two pushchairs off ebay and they are both in excellent condition - if not 'state of the art'.

I have an iCandy apple, the seat can face forward or rearwards. Best travel system I've ever had.

Travel buggy (McLaren) only faces forward, but I rarely use that.

  • We've got a Hauck Infinity which is both forward and rear facing. It's a lot cheaper than most of the other rear-facing pushchairs. I think we got ours from Kiddicare for about £100 about 18months ago. We've found it really easy to push, not too heavy and also easy to fold down. The one we've got is suitable from 3 months but you can get a carrycot attachment for it which makes it suitable from birth. We didn't bother 'cos we used a sling instead.

Yeah but why not ? If that's what we want to do then where is the harm in that ? Personally I love buying buggies/prams , you don't know if you are going to like them until you try them . Also a lot of the buggies I get are in colours that can't be bought over here so are therefore imported and are cheaper than the UK in the 1st place , so when it comes to selling them on you can pretty much guarantee that you will break even or maybe get more back .
