Rearward facing pushchair

It seems common sense to me to have a rearward facing pushchair for toddlers, so that they can interact with their parents. This has been confirmed by recent evidence which seems to suggest that the prevalence of forward facing pushchairs is having negative effects on the language skills of young children.

So..... I recently popped into several well known baby and toddlers equipment providers, but none had any rearward facing pushchairs. Has anyone got any ideas of where I could get one for a reasonable price. My son is currently six months old and we use a travel system with a car seat to ensure he is looking and interacting with us. Ideally I would like the pushchair to be lightweight, so that when my Mum looks after our son she can take the pushchair into the city on the bus. Any ideas?

Hi, I spent many many many hours trying to find a rearward facing buggy about 18 months ago and they absolutely didn't exist. Not to say that someone hasn't launched one since.

We had a fab travel system from mamas & papas which had a frame for the baby car seat to fit onto or you could fit the pram (carrycot) or the push chair to it. It did allow the pushchair to face rearwards and I am certain our daughter benefited from that fact. It was great, even the rain cover fitted when it was rear facing which I know some don't. Not sure it's what you are after but if you want details let me know.

When we wanted a smaller lightweight buggy to go on holiday with we couldn't get a rear facing one and believe me I looked everywhere!

I think this brand is also sold in Mothercare but not sure if it's the same model.

My eldest, born 2000 had a pram that converted to pushchair by moving handles over top. I think you could have made pushchair so it faced you but not 100% sure.It was mamas and papas and began with a 'v'- vienna or venezula perhaps. Don't know if they still make them.

Have a look at this one. It faces each way and looks very sturdy. If you don't fancy buying at brand new prices check them out on Ebay. There is one on at £25, I don't think there are that many going second hand at the mo as it is still relatively new but worth looking on Ebay over the next few weeks for a bargain

I have a M&P 3 in 1 and wouldn't recommend it as the rear facing clip on seat doesn't look terribly neat, but I think this one looks much neater.

Edit, I have just seen this one as well, it was the one I was searching for before I noticed the new one I listed above. Do have a look for this one on Ebay as this one has been around much longer than the other.

It's very similar in design to the one I had that I mentioned earlier. Mine wasn't a travel system as there wasn't as many about in 2000. I loved the one I had but unfortunately it broke beyond repair before I could use it on youngest.

ds1 hated facing backwards even from a few months - screamed all the time, fine facing forwards. hope wasn't cos he thought i was ugly! prefer to think is either cos he was nosy or he was so sick of me talking to him all the time he wanted some peace!! many a time a passerby pointed out that i was talking to a sleeping child!
btw his language skills are better than most of his peers - he prefers talking to adults as gets frustrated with other 3 year olds that he can't understand - so doesn't seem like facing forwards harmed him at all.
Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!
