  • They are still at it.

Today, after three letters from 1st Credit demanding repayment of a fictitious debt, I have received a 'court proceedings' threat from a firm called LCS Solicitors which, 'surprise, surprise', turns out to be the legal division of 1st Credit Ltd.

As with all the previous letters, I have passed details of this to the OFC and will take no further action.

I just thought it might help others here to know who LCS Solicitors are.

Today I received a letter from 1st Credit claiming that I owe Casheuronet £624. This is not true. Having read the earlier posts on this board I have sent copies of the letter to the OFT and the police.

Thanks to you all for the information and advice.

We must do all we can to get these scum taken down.

Hi, I thought I would share our experience of the above company with you.
We received a letter in early April also saying we owed £624.00 to Casheuronet. We don't and never have. Not even heard of them til that day.

We called the OFT and registered a complaint. Then we waited until we had a 2nd letter. On receipt of that we went to the Citizens advice Bureau who contacted 1st Direct immediately. We then went to the Police and got an incident number.
They agreed to do some investigations and called one week later to say we would hear no more and to consider the case closed.

Hopefully that will be the end of it. It is very stressful, even if you know you re not liable for the debt.

dids - Thank you for sharing your experiences with 1st Credit. Since my earlier post things have moved on.

As well as sending copies of the first letter to the OFT and the police, I asked my solicitor to deal with 1st Credit on my behalf. He wrote asking them to substantiate their claim. He has not had a reply.

Two weeks after receiving the first letter a second arrived. This threatens legal action if I do not settle the claim. Again, I sent a copy to the OFT and my solicitor. He phoned 1st Credit, and they refused to deal with him until I contacted them authorising him to act on my behalf. Reluctantly, I phoned them. After giving my Client Account Number I was asked for my date of birth. I refused to give this because I suspect that it would just lead to a series of more personal questions. I was told that they could not accept my instructions without this information, and it is a requirement of the Data Protection Act. I do not believe this and said so. That ended the call.

A few days later I received a letter from the OFT in reply to my two letters. This was a helpful, but non-committal letter. It included a request for me to give the OFT permission to use my letters as evidence in any investigations they may be pursuing. I signed and returned the form authorising this.

Next, I was contacted by the police. The local PC called and said that he would be passing my complaint on so that it could be collated with any similar incidents.

Now I wait to see what happens next.

The telephone number for 1st Credit starts with 0870. Could this be a revenue generating ploy?

Are there any other sites you or anyone else can suggest where we can post details of these events so we can warn others about these people?

Edit: Just received a letter from LCS Solicitors demanding full payment within 14 days. They say they will start proceedings in the County Court if I do not settle.
I am sending copies to OFT, police and my solicitor.
  • I was first contacted by 1st Credit in August 2008. I was out of the country for 5 weeks and returned to 20 automated answerphone messages and a pile of demand letters. I was quite shocked to say the least, especially since I hadn't a clue what this debt was.

I googled 1st Credit (and CashEuroNet) to find forums like this with advice on how to deal with it. I then sent them a letter stating that I did not agree to the debt, nor did I have any knowledge of it and if it did exist, could they please provide me with the original agreement within the statutory time (I can't remember the exact details of this now but there's something like 12 or 14 days in which they have to supply it). Anyway, they replied by letter, saying that they'd do so. Weeks passed with no further word from them and I assumed they'd left me alone.

Now, 4 months on, they've decided to bug me again. 2 letters and one (unanswered) phone call. Looks like it's time I reported them to the OFT...

    *sigh*
