lol Well, it was a toss up between Joe 90 and Father Unwin.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

An admin fee of £10 is a bit high don't you think. They probably WANT you to send a signed cheque so they can copy your signature for a CCA. Stay clear, especially if you are sure you have no debts. My Wins: £150 Next giftcard. Rimmel Lip Gloss, Benefit Lipstick and lipgloss. Rimmel Day2Night mascara. Elizabeth Arden Body Treatment Cream. I too received a letter identical to SteveRD dated 16/03/09 and for the same amount. I too do not owe anyone any money. I did try phoning them and one of the first questions I was asked was for my birthdate, which I refused to answer. I wrote to them saying I had no knowledge of the debt and have received a reply asking me to contact them by phone.
Thanks to dasvoce's reply I shall write asking for the credit agreement.0 -
People usually use postal orders to avoid providing a signature.
IIRC, £1 is a statutory amount required to process a CCA request so you need to include this.
There is a better aproach than this at this stage though. That is the 'prove it' letter. (Thanks fermi).1 High Street,

Dear Sir/Madam
Ref: xxxxxxxxxxx
You have contacted us regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by ourselves.
We would point out that we have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to The Loan Company.
We are familiar with the ‘Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance’ which states that it is unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.
We would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable. In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.
Furthermore, ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.
We would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above accounts unless you can provide evidence as to our liability for the debt in question.
We await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed. Otherwise we will have no option but to make a complaint to the trading standards department and consider informing the OFT of your actions.
We look forward to your reply.
Yours faithfully

I received a letter today, based upon the same template & company as that described by SteveRD above. The only difference being that the amount was for £624.
I've emailed them, using Lensman's draft letter...adding BBC Watchdog alongside OFT in the final paragraph.
Thanks for the advice everyone.0 -
Despite being debt free and never having heard of either 1st Credit or CashEuroNet UK, I too received a letter from 1st Credit, similar to that received by SteveRD.
Today I have received a follow-up letter from them requesting my best offer to clear the fictitious debt.
I have telephoned Trading Standards/OFT on 08454 040506 with full details of the letter and my contact details.
Their advice, which they recommend I pass on to others, is for anyone receiving such a scam demand should report it to them on the above number, on the basis that the more complaints they receive, the easier it becomes for them to investigate and if appropriate, take the necessary action.
Their number is 08454 040506 (option 3)0 -
IF YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT YOU DO NOT OWE THE DEBT, DONT EVEN BOTHER CONTACTING THEM.
Go straight to the OFT, contact details on www.oft.gov , and let them know.
This vile bunch are one of the biggest causes of misery ( threatening Bankruptcy, Charging Orders etc with no real intention of carrying out the threat ) that there is in the disgusting 'debt-buying' so-called industry. They are currently under CLOSE scrutiny by the OFT for their underhand methods and out-and-out lying and, if the ball can be kept rolling on the Complaints, are under threat of being fined £50,000 per case and possibly having their OFT Licence revoked.
Complaining to the OFT is easy and anonymous ( if you want it so ) and they work on numbers of complaints as well as the seriousness of them. DO IT NOW, if not for yourself then for the other poor s*ds who are suffering at the hands of these bullies.

Sending out demands for payment ,when it is uncertain that they are the debtor, is breaking Section 2.8a of the Guidelines for Debt Collection.
and everything that they do after that just gets them deeper in....give them enough rope....:D stay wonky
