    Quite.

And were we londoners ( read lonodn taxpayers) asked if we wanted to "host" such an extravaganza? No, course not.

What staggers me is that CT is going up to pay for this white elephant that SO many londoners did not want, yes councils are slashing services to older people, social services and other vital services.

    GOOD ONE
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

Good grief, talk about spin. Barcelona seems to have been the proverbial exception.

Montreal 1976: virtually bankrupted the city, by 2002 the debt (£600million to start with) was still £187million and wasn't paid off finally until 2006.

Barcelona 1992: it took four years for the Games to break even, and that was in a much better global economic climate than we have now.

Sydney 2000: the authority running the 425-hectare Olympic Park lost money last year despite receiving a 30-million-Australian-dollar government subsidy, and the Olympic Stadium is underused.

Athens 2004: caused a massive budget deficit for Greece.

Ok I read the article it says some have been a success and some have not. "Critics pointed out that the "Olympic effect" helped to hike property prices beyond the means of many in Barcelona, but the event proved that, in the right hands, the Games need not be a poisoned chalice."

So maybe you would like to sugest a better way
