At a time when we need as much foreign investment from tourism as possible, of course we do.
So you've seen something that shows that the income from tourism will exceed the spend on the games huh? Is that taking into account that other countries are feeling the chilly winds of an economic downturn at the moment too and will probably do what we do and cut back on things like holidays abroad?
Sorry, I know I'm being a bit severe there, but the whole point of this is whether or not the games are really worth it, rather than vague claims and theories. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

Good points, I suppose we won't really know until it happens.
If the pound is still relatively low against the euro, or indeed if we're using the euro, by this point then I think that would be extra incentive to travel from the continent. Same goes for America and the dollar. Most who would travel abroad for the olympics I should imagine will be well off enough anyway to afford it, recession or no recession.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Of course we have to tough it out. Perhaps it will bring out the old Blitz Spirit
Whatever we manage to put on, the world's nations will know its been tough to do it at all and probably very grateful they didnt "win".
It will give people something to look forward to and the infrastructure and regneration in those areas will be a big boost to the local economies and tourism.0 -
Why is everyone worried about the cost of the Olympics? It is irrelevanto a large extent.
Most of the money the Government is putting into the games goes to UK businesses, and then subsequently gets re-circulated throught the UK economy. It's actually quite a good way of helping the building industry at the moment (a sort of staggered cash input over the next 4 years)0 -
Carillion is the main Builder.
I know the company who is sorting out the power for the olympic village.
with the grid not being up to it i remember my colleague down there saying they were going to have to use gas turbines to generate power for the village.
this will up the bill.
i will join the fun near to the completion , with the inspect and testing side.
( plus the money then will be double  as the usual panic sets in to avoid penaltys )
i bet the French breathed a big sigh of relief when we copped it.maybe we should of shared it0 -
Carillion...... new name for Tarmac. Safety record not the best, reason for a name change. Wear your hard hat and viz vest and boots etc etc. The Keystone cops of the construction industry me thinks.I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0

If this Island were to turn it's back on the EU, stop aid to Mugabe and other African Nations, pull out of the Iraq war and use the soldiers to gain the peace back on the streets of London, Manchester, Birmingham.
THEN concentrate on how to build up this dreadful society that I have had the bad luck to live in. Maybe, just maybe I could be proud of being British.0 -
