We need a proper NuBritain Olympics that celebrates the Socialist utopia of NuLabour.

After a 'elf'n'safety assessment all sports that require throwing things will be banned in case someone is hit on the head.

After a diversity assessment, all sports that require physical excellence will be banned as they aren't inclusive.

How much will it cost to host a game a dominoes an' da drumming and da bassings competition?

Yes we should host it - possibly the worst time in the history of the games to be doing so but London on the world stage? Yes please.

Expensive it will be but as sarkin mentions it will prove to be priceless for future business and the UK economy.

Optimistically, we can pull it off and show the world we are made of strong stuff.

If our pound is crass during the run up when everyone is talking about it, won't that help tourism, etc?

Yes fantastic Idea, I have lived in both Sydney and Barcelona, the repeat business from a succesful Olympics is unmeasuarble. Barcelona is still dinning out on it and they held them in 1994. For a Country that will be comming out of recession this will keep the positivity going.

Good grief, talk about spin. Barcelona seems to have been the proverbial exception.

Montreal 1976: virtually bankrupted the city, by 2002 the debt (£600million to start with) was still £187million and wasn't paid off finally until 2006.

Barcelona 1992: it took four years for the Games to break even, and that was in a much better global economic climate than we have now.

Sydney 2000: the authority running the 425-hectare Olympic Park lost money last year despite receiving a 30-million-Australian-dollar government subsidy, and the Olympic Stadium is underused.

Athens 2004: caused a massive budget deficit for Greece.

Yes we should do it - it'll be a laugh!! Not everything is about house prices, economy and so on... money is not the most important thing!!

With the way things are should we be even thinking about hosting it. Wouldn't the money come in elsewhere. Looks like they are cutting back, shave a bit here and a bit there. We may well end up a laughing stock and all for what ?? A few poxy medals.

I've been thinking this way for a while. We're stuck with it now though and ought to make the best of it.

Maybe the country can stage a "MSE style" olympics, actually look to try and create something simple, classic and classy without just throwing money around trying to keep up with other countries.

Of course that'll never happen. All the idiots at the top of the sporting tree will demand more bling and more and more overblown nonsense so they don't feel embarrassed over port and cigars and choke on their 17-course meal at the next International Olympic Comittee shindig.

We haven't got a choice. The 'government' will just hike our council taxes through the roof. It's another 'millenium dome' and obviously the UK taxpayer will be the cash cow to fund this ridiculous project. I wish France had won it

Unmeasurable eh? That's very convenient for those people who insist that the games are 'worth it' but can't quite explain why.

At a time when we need as much foreign investment from tourism as possible, of course we do.
