Am I being hijacked!!

I was browsing the femail website and got a pop up saying "this phone call is not free, you will be charged at interntional rate." Yes or No and I clicked no. I am very concerned now in case the computer is dialling premium rate. Help, please. My antivirus and ccleaner are up to date.

Sounds like you have a rogue dialer installed. Have you checked for unusual files installed on your PC (ie a dialler?). Perhaps might be as obvious as showing in Add/Remove Programs within the Control Panel.

Are you on ADSL, or use dial-up? If ADSL, then just ensure you have any dial-up modem disconnected, as the rogue dialler won't be able to dial out then.

Follow this link and download the Ad-Aware programme for free. Run it and it should detect all problems of this sort and do away with them too!

theres a guide here about removing this sort of stuff properly

but i'm sure the premium rate diallers don't warn you like that !!

Bt do a free bit of software that stops your modem dialling anything outside it's approved list

Once downloaded, the software automatically launches everytime you start your computer. It monitors internet dial-up connections and alerts you when unauthorised users attempt to dial restricted numbers. When suspicious activity is noticed a display window will warn "You are attempting to dial a premium rate, international or non-approved number. If you do not want to proceed with this call hang up. If in any doubt you should unplug your modem and check your settings before attempting to redial".
