Tesco Bread Flour

Does anyone else think that the supermarkets are getting wise to us OS? As the price of basic ingredients keeps going up???? Mr T white bread flour jumped to 78p locally yesterday from the 48p it's been for months

Thankfully I bought 10 bags from ASDA when on offer at 48p. Also we prefer the ASDA bread flour. The dippy girl in ASDA only asked me what I needed all the flour for? erm to make bread :rotfl:

If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it

Yes, I have noticed this too.. You were lucky to get it on offer, the cheapest I can find for brown bread flour is 98p and 49 for white bread flour (I mix the two to make it go further!).
  • I can't say I've noticed the bread flour but was in Tesco on Monday and was shocked to see just how much they have hiked up some of the prices. Not just pence but by about 30% in some cases.I thought food prices were supposed to be coming down not going up again.

It's all part of tescos 'discount brands' thingy.

Ie repackage the value stuff and add on 20-30%

Just upgrade you shopping to aldi and be done with it.

Better nip out to Lidl and get a few bags, they were 48 last week.

I just want to know where Gordon Brown shops as he keeps saying food prices are coming down:confused:

Have an Aldi in my area but no bread flour there and Lidl is miles away unfortunately. My husband thinks I'm getting obsessed with price but I just can't believe the price hikes like you say about 30%. Anyone had a 30% pay rise recently? thought not.

my mum mentioned to me that flour prices would prob rise so last months i went and stocked up in lidl , glad i did as i use so much. was shocked to see it for 75p in tesco on thurs
  • I have shopped online at MrT for ages and am shocked at things going up week by week! I had bread flour in my order last week and when it came it had indeed gone up to 75p. I also buy tins of value tuna chunks for my cat and the price of those has virtually doubled recently! I am doing an order with Asda after xmas as looking at their website they beat MrT on a lot of prices.....eg bread flour still 48p.

I can't believe the strong white flour either, i got 8 bags from asda yesterday at 47p each as i refuse to pay 75p each to tesco.

I have noticed loads of basics going up at tesco over the past month...the biggest being boneless skinless pink salmon that in one week went from 68p to £1.32...how can they warrent this?...it has been coming down each week since then and it's now £1.28...i think they make the prices up.

The one price i can't get over is value grated cheese is cheaper per kg (£3.96 per kg) than a block of value cheese which is £5.13 per kg! I think it's time to visit lidls.
  • This makes me soooooooo angry. Gordon Brown says prices should be coming down soon so what Tesco are doing is putting up the prices so that in a few weeks time they can put the prices back down and quote large reductions in prices. Do they really think we are that stupid?
  • i use normal plain flour in my bread maker and have never had any problems. i think there is only a percentage point or two difference between strong bread flour and plain flour and dont see the point in paying extra for it.
