  • Big hugs to your friend, my friend at work lost her little girl the same way late last year. Fundraising.........................well you have sponsered walks/runs, bungie jump, come up here (the lakes) and do the walk across the bay (they have set days for the walks and all sorts of people do it for charity, its a hard but rewarding walk) do the charity have the money boxes local shops might put by their tills for loose change?? what about getting permission to do an awareness thing in town/market/town hall???? ummm, what else??????? ummmm, charity go karting championships, making little ribbon badges (like the pink breast cancer ones) to sell (although may need permission for that).

trying to think what else we did years ago when a mates little girl died from meningitis............................if i think of anything else will come back!!!!

  • not sure how big it is where you work but we do regular book sales where everybody brings in their old books and we sell them off. We also do cake sales where we sell home made cakes, they go down a storm. How awful for your friend xxx
  • You could also sell some of those lovely chicks you have knitted. Stuff them with an egg and you would easily get a couple of quid each for them! x

Just a thought but what about working with a pub and do a joint charity with them, to the extent that they hold a years worth of sponsership, you bring the events in (with their help) + people buy drinks, so both win win situation, a pub by where I use to work did that.

    They held
Quiz night - £5 per team of 4 -6 people
Raffle draw - same night - few bits
Car Boots or Sunday afternoon table top sale
Guest night - tarot reader - they give a donation to the charity

Long shot but has ur friend or one of the close friends - got school at children, speak to headmaster arrange a non-uniform day 50p child (being a school - have to offer to split the money 50/50)

    Sponsered easter egg hunt-

So sorry about your friends, little boy, a friend of ours in Devon their grandson and his wife lost their 1st baby the same way, we saw a photo he looked perfect - just the colour of his lips were dark. They've just had a little boy last year.

What about a half marathon or anything like that or is there something different about where they live they could use that as a starting point for a sponsered walk.

Yrs ago - when mum worked in a care home we did a sponsered walk, and our town has 10 bridges, so our "unique point" was we did under or over all the bridges,

Another one did (I was 16- back seat passenger), was a treasure hunt, it was done by car, they were set off 5 minutes between and you had a list of clues, but you had to find the item or saying.. fill in the sheet

This can be done by walking as well, - one night when I was working at Burgerking I saw about 20 people going in batches walking through the drive throu lane - asked them what they were doing - concerned for their safety, and it was one of the clues - what parking is red, yellow, green, blue - they were the parking spaces for the drive throu park ups.

Digressing slightly but if you use an official sponser form, theres always a box that says are you a tax payer, if the person is get them to tick it as the charity can get upto 25p extra per £1 from the goverment. - Unless its a school form, I put the donation in dads name as he pays tax, and every penny helps.

Summer event - Strawberries and cream tea.

Is there like an outside activites centre, PGL or similar, (have outdoor things - may let you do it there - absail etc)

Sports hall - newer ones have rock climbing.

Any event she has contact the local paper, give them plenty of notice, they may run the story and photographs.

I did a funday at BK (back in 2001) for Red Nose day- (if got pub with carpark or place suitable)
I had the fire bridgage out - kids loved the fact they could look in
Had a strech limo - (had a free ride), - put a donation bucket by the door, people looked in, the firm handed out cards
    Fancy dress theme
Small raffle draw - 5 prizes

    We made over £300.

Looking for prizes - (I did the raffle organsiation for xmas draw for school pta)
Try local, cinema, chip shop, pizza, supermarket (they can be a bit tight as they got lot of requests 3/4 donate), if you have any local attractions,

bigger places- Boots, Body Shop, etc they support their own charities.

If I can think of any more will shout xx

Condolences to your friend, losing a child is incredibly hard and I can appreciate the need to feel that she is doing something.

Other suggestions not mentioned are an auction - can be two types either donations from local business, sports clubs, etc. Or a talents auction where people donate their time/ talents - people could donate an hours ironing, an evening of babysitting, baking a cake etc.

Another idea is to contact local high school, my eldest just had an Enterprise day having had months of pre Enterprise day projects. The idea was the kids all had to put together ideas for money raising for a charity, team that did best as judged by local business guru won.

As its a young baby I would also contact mums and toddler groups, they may hold special coffee mornings, toy sales etc for the charity.

    Good Luck
  • So sorry to hear about your friend! Loads of great ideas been given!! I cant think of any others sorry!!
I think yous should sell your chicks they are great (not sure how long each takes you etc - but they look great!!) I would buy 3 from you and pay the postage etc or meet you in the town or something as your so near :) so I bet you could make a little from them to help :)

Some great ideas there, well done! We are definately adding a quiz night and a raffle to our fundraising and we found out today that our work will match anything we raise up to £1000 and each of us has an allowance eg if we raised £1500 one of us can claim the thousand allowance, another claim the £500 and we would have raised £3000!!:T

Kidcat I really like the school idea too, will have a think about that.

Im glad you all liked the chicks that much! As soon as the yellow wool turns up from Ebay I will knit a few more to show you and see what you think, see if I could sell them.

Talking of Ebay I am REALLY annoyed. I listed a travel bottle warmer as new and in box, which it was, but I dropped it when i went to wrap it and it broke. I sent the guy a nice email saying sorry and gave him a full refund and sent a cancel transaction thingy. He has sent back saying I shouldnt list things as new if they are broken and he wants a photo of the damage and he wont accept the cancellation!:mad: So now I sent him an email saying I dont like what he is accusing me of, Ive issued a refund and i wont be sending him photos or the item. Idiot!

Right off for a look round here.

Ebay always frightens me, have been listing stuff for last couple of weeks and been lucky to sell most of it, not earning much but its all stuff out of the way. But each time I am terrified someone is going to find fault and complain.:)

As for charity stuff several of the big companies will match fundraising totals as part of their charity work. HSBC, Barclays and Marks and Spencer all come to mind as having been good for our group in the past. United Utilities has also been good to groups I have worked with in the past - although sometimes they offer a service rather than cash - such as a garden landscaped for a community group.
