For me it has to be the whole bird, on the table on a platter, looking gorgeous!

Poppy9...it doesn't say how many it serves, I've just checked. It weighs 1.8kg. It also looks small to me. :D I'm worried.

Browntoa......you did read the word 'locusts' in my post didn't you? :rotfl:

My 25 yr old and the 19 yr old are just under and just over 6' tall respectively......I think they were born with hollow legs. :D

If it's 1.8kg then it's slightly smaller than mine which will service 6 so you should be okay with it but doubt you will have much leftovers.

  • I've got a crown ordered and usually have this as it's just the 2 of us. OH like the thigh meat etc, but I do the shopping ;)

Aliasjo, I would pad it out with lots of stuffing, sausages wrapped in bacon, piles of roast potatoes and lots of different veg.

OH was in the kitchen with the youngest baking Princess cookies :D when they ran out of icing so he nipped down to Somerfield a short while ago and there was one small lone turkey crown sat all by itself so he brought that home too.

So, we'll have enough now without doubt but it's going to stuff up my cooking times as one is small and the other is medium. It doesn't take much you know. :D

  • how about cooking one on Christmas Eve (the small one maybe) and keeping that as the cold leftovers on Boxing Day etc, and then cooking the medium one on Christmas Day for the main meal. If you have leftovers, they can be added to the other one you've cooked and it means you don't have to mess around with timings for 2 different sized birds.

That's probably a better idea BB, I'm not the keenest cook in the world and anything that simplifies things is fine by me.

  • We ended up with a turkey joint with stuffing and bacon (only 2 of us so it should last a fair few days) but Aldi had in some pretty big turkey crowns as well.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
  • to be honest aliasjo, you could smother a load of butter under the skin of the small one, wrap it tight in foil, chuck in the oven and forget about it until 20 minutes before the end just to remove the foil. Cool and bung in fridge - done!

The moneysaving option to cut down on Electric gas use is to cook both of them at the same time oven space permitting. Else when you've finished cooking the first and have room put the second in leave it cook while you eat and then you don't have to start from scratch with a cold oven.
