I had no joy either, I think Martin has been misinformed on this one...0

No luck either this morning, my local branch confirmed the 6%0

Contact Barclays Customer care team on 0800282390 they can confirm 7.75
rate is correct.0 -
Same here... branch insisted 6% was correct but phoned the customer care centre at the number above and after checking the fella there said 7.75% was correct.
I'm going to make sure I get it in writing though.. and I'll let the personal banker at my branch know, she was quite keen on opening one, too!0 -
I opened one of these yesterday at the local branch and got 7.75%.0

I opened a Monthly saver today with the rate 7.75% AER. The steps guys I took are as follows:
(1) Call 08456030845 and press '3'. This is the direct line to savings/bonds I got after using the number recommended by u204378 above. This line is open from 08:30 calling at this time is recommended as it avoids being put in a queue. If the person still quotes 6% ask to speak to a savings account Team Leader. They should confirm the 7.75% rate. Take the name and department of the person that confirms the 7.75% rate.
(2) Go to your local barclays branch bringing with you a form of id (passport/drivers license) and prove of address if you are not an existing customer.
(3) If the person at the branch (if its convenient the branch in moorgate knows now) still quotes 6% get them to call the above number and ask for the person who confirmed hopefully for you earlier.
(4) When they have confirmation proceed with opening the account. Take note of the sort code and acount number. To receive the 7.75% rate u must credit the account before the 31st of December by standing order only (not cash). If you are not an existing customer u will need to go to your normal bank and set up a standing order. Make the first standing order payment a direct payment preferably today as banks are closed tomorrow I believe and am unsure if they will reopen before the 31st. Otherwise it may not make it before the 31st.
(5) Act on this today, the barclays branch I went is closed after 2pm tomorrow. Best of luck.
And thats it u should receive a letter confirming the account and rate in a few days.0 -
Ive just opended one at 7.75% as long as my standing order from Abbey goes through in time, i set it up to go out tomorrow so fingers crossed.
The Personal Banker didnt know anything about this rate when i told her, and she laughed off a rate that high, she also wouldnt ring the number above as she was certain the highest was 6%
If it wasnt for the cofusion of her thinking it was a Variable rate instead of fixed she wouldnt of checked further into the product screen which she found the 7.75% tucked away in small writing.
She was helpful in the end but i could tell she didnt like me knowing all this info without her been aware of it.
Barclays need to train their staff better on products they sell me thinks0 -

Don't think you will receive any letter from Barclays confirming the rate, I opened this account in November and have had no contact from them at all."When the Government borrows, the citizen has to save".
