Toshibas are fine (Id wager better than HP). Intel dual are better than AMD dual. 2 gig will run Vista no problem

I do have a clue you ******. If you want a laptop that is going to last and going to be able to run multiple programs at the same time then you will need more than 2GB RAM and that is a fact.

I have a Mac that's a few years old and can only address 2GB of RAM.

I guess I should throw it out.

RAM really really is a crucial part for Vista. 2GB should be enough, but not for a lot of multi-tasking with decent speed.

If amount of memory is of concern for the Toshiba l300-1aq, 2GB DDR2 800MHz sodimm can be ordered for £11.99 at play.com (temp. out of stock).

    To quote you earlier

"The L300-1AQ doesnt have enough RAM to effectively run Vista so that rules that one out"

To me, that statement says 2GB ram is not enough when having Vista as your OS.

Your quote at the top of my comment states "and going to be able to run multiple programs at the same time then you will need more than 2GB RAM" meaning if you're running a lot of applications 2 GB won't be enough. 2GB would probably be enough, but more may improve speed.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

    shelly,

If you get the opportunity, just enquire if the RAM can be upgraded at a later date. I assume (without looking at the specs of the PC again) that it would be.

is it likely to cost more than £50 to upgrade the RAM to 4gb? if so should i go for the more expensive toshiba? ive already got him down to £399 for it with 4gb so i possibly could get more off if i haggled well.

as a novice in this sort of thing ive no idea what that means , is that the memory to go inside or external one? if internal is it expensive to get installed? as the more expensive toshiba is only £50 more with 4gb RAM so probably easier do you think ?
