  • I am also a take away container lover (on ebay I got 60 for £4 a few months ago - still have some now and they get chucked on about the 3rd use) but I have some more sturdy tupperware in everything from fitting in a few raisins for a snack to freezing a meal for a family of 4 size, I got them when they were on discount and paid around £3 for a big pack of all different sizes, I think they are less than £5 full price, had them for a year and a half with no problems as of yet.

I like Lock n Lock the best. Have tried other cheaper ones and they just haven't lasted. Last ones were bought in Morrisons really cheaply.

another vote for the Lock&Locks, they're the best for long term storage

I use the takeaway containers for batch cooked food & things that aren't going to be frozen for too long

The freezer tends to turn everything very brittle after a while - even expensive lock n locks I've had. I find the tabs snap off.

We use takeaway containers and old spreadable butter containers (i.e. clover) - they can take a portion of soup, or lasagne etc and stack really well.

Bigger things go in old 2 litre ice cream tubs.

I use old margerine tubs, mostly clover or flora. Use them and when they get a bit grotty, bin them.

For the fridge I use lock & lock (love them) but for the freezer I use the takeaway containers and pyrex with plastic lid. The takeaway containers are ideal for freezing small portions or anything you're going to nuke in the microwave but the pyrex is great for large things like lasagne, shepherds pie etc and you can put it in the oven to reheat.

    Hey everyone.

I want to start batch cooking larger amounts of food and freezing portions sizes but I'm not sure what containers to use.

Recently I cooked up a whole cabbage and froze into portions. I used small food bags from Poundland and clipped the tops. When I needed a bag I just pulled off the bag from the frozen lump or let it defrost in the bag. I did this with a batch of cooked carrots too. Is there a better way?

I cooked up some Pulled Pork. I put shredded portions into small plastic takeaway tubs, again purchased from Poundland. The portion was much smaller than the tub itself and it was a generous helping. Can I put meat into bags?

I want to cook a huge amount of mince and freeze into portions. What containers should I use?
