I use the plastic takeaway type containers from Wilkinsons as they are good quality - I bought just one lot from poundland but the lids didn't fit - so a total waste of money. I microwave the food in them too (just be sure to remove the lid).A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

It it's home grown veg like beans, peppers, etc. the best thing to do is to dry them after blanching and quick freeze on an open tray until they're hard, then pack in bags. They contain a lot less water this way and that certainly helps prevent them from getting frosted.
With cooked foods like caseroles, sauces, a good thick bag or box helps, and also keeping a freezer rota to ensure they're turned round and eaten within a reasonable time limit.0 -
Hello all,
I was wondering what everybody uses for freezing meals and other foods in. I currently use freezer bags for beans, meatballs, frozen veg etc. These are washed and reused so they're not too ungreen.
However, I need to start making some meals or, at least, meal blocks for the freezer as I already work 4 days and OH is starting full time work in a week (:T ) so I expect we'll both be too tired for full on cooking every night.
Anyway, I was wondering what to use as I currently only have a few sturdy lunchbox type boxes and I don't want them all hidden in the freezer as I need some for lunches! So, what should I invest in? Here's the possibilities I've thought of so far:
Disposable foil trays
Sturdy (expensive) lock n lock style boxes
Less expensive plastic boxes (like these)
Freeze things in boxes and then tranfer to bags when they're solid (I'm thinking shepherdless pie type thing here).
Are there any things I'm overlooking? Are any of these terrible/wonderful? I need some advice from you experienced freezer cooks!
Thank you0 -
the foil trays with the cardboard lids are good value at costco, and we do reuse them, they work out at 2p each I think? If you aren't a member I can get you some next time I go.

Thanks weezl,
Wasn't sure if they could be reused or if they just tore too easily. Might go for these as they fit well in my freezer and can go in the oven. I may have to take you up on the costco offer. Will have a look what I can get.0 -
I save margerine tubs and wash them out and either freeze stuff in them or line them with an open sandwich bag or freezer bag - freese food and them take out the bag and stack.0

We gather chinese type tubs from family etc, and on the odd occassion we induldge, they are great for storing in the freezer, perfect size and dtack well.2 angels in heaven :A0

Marg tubs are a good size and I tend to buy the fairly cheap plastic tubs and also recycle takeaway ones (on the rare occasions we have takeaway!), if I'm stuggling I will use freezer bags, but I bought cheap ones last time, so I'm careful to defrost them in a bowl in case they leak! I've also used the foil trays and I love them for things like lasagne as they can go straight into the oven - much easier than defrosting first :-)Aiming to be debt & mortgage free by November 2018!0

Chop 2ltr milk bottles in half to freeze curries and casseroles. The top of the milk containers are used as funnels or to cover plants in the garden.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
