that's a drop in the ocean compared to the billions that taxpayers are going to have to pump into HBOS partly because of its management's failures.
Agreed. However those £bns involve an equity stake and at 12% return on the preference shares taxpayers will do well in the long run.
They are still bringing out endless new products and issuing more rewards than a wild west sheriff.
Well blow me down with excitement at their reckless 3.5% reward product.
They still don't seem to have learnt the need to be more consistent and conservative and not to run a retail bank like a supermarket.
Their retail bank appears to be run far more prudently and profitably than the other parts of their business. While I don't doubt the big mortgage book will take a hit over the next 12 months, the bank's Corporate and Treasury divisions are responsible for their demise.0
