New to selling - advice sought

Hi all,
I need to make the leap from buyer to seller, but don't really know where to start. I know a lot of you have different accounts for buying and selling, so, a few questions:
1. Do eBay "officially" care if you have two accounts?
2. If I set up a new account to sell, I can give a different email address easily enough, but not a different postal address. Do they check?
3. If I set up a new account, I'll have zero feedback as opposed to the 100+, 100% on my present account. I know how cruelly (j/k) you all treat people with zero feedback, so will I actually be able to sell anything, and will it affect the prices I can get?
I won't be selling much - mostly coins that are surplus to my collection, but who knows, I might find other things to shift in due course. I'm not looking to make profit here, just shift some things that I don't need.
So is it worth setting up a new account, or should I just use the one I've got?
And then if you can all post your secret ways of maximising your gains, that would be lovely too.
Cheers,
MBE

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

You will be able to sell, but the chances are you may not get as much interest as you would otherwise, or might get lower prices.
You can counteract this aa bit by havng clear, well written auction pages with photos of the item and clear instructions.
If you do want two accounts, you could always sell from your current account with it's existing feedback rating, and set up a new account for buying. So is it worth setting up a new account, or should I just use the one I've got?
Sounds like you could use the one you've got0 -
Out of interest why is it better to sell through a different account ? I'm in same situation as OP .. about to take the plunge as a seller ...HLK

I am sure there are other reasons, but for me it's for the following ones...
1: Privacy. Do i really want people buying a bible off me seeing the bondage gear I bought last week?
2: Some of the things I sell on eBay, I buy through eBay, so don't want my buyers knowing how much I paid, etc.
3: Ease of administration.
4: Protection. If I have any problems with one account, then they won't spill over into the other.0 -
You can have as many EBay accounts as you wish and I recommend....
1. Primary selling account for goods that do not attract kids and divvies.
2. Secondary selling account for the kind of goods that attract kids and divvies, ie, computer games, mobile phones, etc.
3. Primary buying account.
4. Secondary buying account for "asking seller" and using to buy goods that you feel you want to take a chance on, but that may cause issues.
When selling, feedback is god, don't risk retaliatory feeback from another seller when a puchase goes bad, and don't risk getting auctions wrecked
thus keep buying and selling seperate.
When buying, feedback it completely unimportant, so one can be ruthless dealing with sellers who don't perform.

Open your paypal account and add a secondry email address, you can then make a new ebay account to sell and use your secondry email address. Your payments will then go to the same account that you use for your 1st ebay account.
Hope you understand

I understand...but am not sure I want to accept PayPal. I know this would mean my stuff may not sell as well, but I really don't like the idea of PayPal from a seller's point of view. It's ok for buyers, but not sellers. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Personally for selling i love using paypal. Although you inccur further fees it means i can spend money on ebay with ease. No money comes out my bank and i dont need to send any cheques etc.
I sell to fund my buying

Is that not against eBay policy, to have more than one account?

Auctions wrecked? How?
I'm really not sure I can be bothered with all the aggro....I just want to sell a few bits I don't need, every now and then. I'm not thinking about making a business out of it.
You've said to have separate accounts, and I can see the reasoning, but I'm more concerned about trying to sell with an account with little to no feedback? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
You will struggle slightly with no feedback to sell items , but offer as much reassurance as possible.
Such as " winning bidder can phone me before payment, for reassurance that im a geniene geezer
" or something like that
or offer proof of purchase for new items etc.
We all had to start with 0 feedback once upon a time.:j Midmac Aka Crazy baby :j0
