we had been playing on our full 1080p tv and so the console was set to 1080p. the next day i took it upstairs to play on our 720p tv and just like you we had sound but no picture.
so if it is at all possible that the same has happened to yours then the solution is to connect it to a 1080p tv and change the settings to 480p,(no not even 720 works) once it is changed to 480p connect it to the tv were you have the problem. if it now works you can then change the setting to 720p assuming the tv you are having the problem on is a 720p tv. if it isnt a hd ready tv then leave it at 480p.
Sadly this isnt the case, as have never used the xbox on a different TV, and its just a bog standard tv so never needed any special settings that may have been reset.
According to all the sites ive checked its to do with the GPU chip, which has propably come loose (the cause of the RedRingOfDeath, altho i dont have the ring). Am in the middle of trying some different techniques to try and fix it, but I have given up getting inside the console as this has proven difficult.Never knock on death's door, ring the doorbell and run away ..... he hates that :mad:0 -
sorry to hear that. it seems that there is another cause then. well i doubt if it is possible for a child to have accidently changed the settings to 1080p while on a standard definition tv.0

IVE FIXED IT

After flicking through a few forums on the internet I found a suggestion to make the console overheat by covering the fan vents with a towel. After about 20 minutes there was a half red circle on the bit where the lights are. I turned the console and then after 20 seconds back on and there was the picture. Dont know how long it will work for but it seems to have done the trick, maybe only for the short-term
thank you for all your help.Never knock on death's door, ring the doorbell and run away ..... he hates that :mad:0 -
Out it quick while it's working and get a new one :snow_laugNothing to see here, move along.0

This is known as the towel trick, which is highly dangerous as you re basically overheating your xbox. Now you can fix it yourself and buy a a cliamping pack on ebay with instructions for around £4.99, or you can get it fixed for around £45.00 again through ebay. Or do a search on google, some uk shops pay £50 for any xbox360 working or not again search google.
What has happened is you need to get your xbox360 reclamped , which is a common problem and can be fixed easily.
If you want to do it yourself look for one of these on ebay type in xbox360 clamp around £2.50 just checked.

If that's right sell your old one to a shop, if you have a hard drive keep that and buy a 360 arcade for around £90 online (best price I've seen today) which will be cheaper than fixing it, when you buy a new one check that the power output of the transformer is 175w and not 205w that way you'll Know your getting a falcon (new model with the new graphic chip) which although it's too new to say for sure should be more reliable, and as it's one you got new you'll have a microsoft warranty, Microsoft have extended the warranty for graphic chip problems to 3 years and your laughin!!or you can get it fixed for around £45.00 again through ebay. The best store IMO is defo Gamestation. They match any Exchange price on https://www.cex.co.uk (cex is normally highest price you will get).
Take a print-out off of CeX and take it to your local Gamestation; and they will match it!
Also, make sure the print-out is from the same day that you go to GameStation, or they won't match it!
