Xbox 360 problems

Hey,
went to use my Xbox360 this morning and it doesnt seem to want to work. The sound is working fine but there is no picture! I have tried it on a different TV but no luck.....and Ive been out and bought a new AV cable but still no luck.
So the problem seems to be with the xbox itself. Anybody gota clue about how to fix this? or is it new Xbox time??

Seems to be another common(ish) problem with the 360. This guy (http://www.justin-cook.com/wp/2008/08/06/how-to-fix-an-xbox-360-with-sound-but-no-video/) has a solution which seems to imply there's a problem with the heat sink on the GPU so it may be worth a try if it's out of warranty and you're looking at a new Xbox anyway.

Presumably as you've already replaced the AV cable, you've checked that it's firmly seated at both ends?

Im sure the xbox would be out of warranty, as bought it from a second hand store, I suppose no harm in attempting the fix myself.
Yeah AV cable was my first suspicion but after replacing didnt fix the problem.

  • Has the green ring turned red? If so, then you're in trouble...

Ive had a look at what this proposes I do....its seems quite extreme and I dont have half the tools needed.........so hopefully there are other options out there which arent as extreme (and easier)

  • This isnt really going to help you or make you feel any better, but I just got a copy of COD 5 yesterday, and its amazing! Better than COD 4 methinks. I'll be thinking of you when playing tonight.

Nice to see that some people are constructive and helpful out there!!
Sadly I have no come back........especially as COD5 was the reason for the xbox being turned on today!!

  • Sahun, the xclamp fix is fairly easy to do, the hardest part is getting the xbox to bits in the first place. I just got the screws and fibre washers from B&Q and a tube of heat sink compound from PC world. If you get a kit from fleabay make sure it has the compound with it as you really do need it.

Mine was freezing up but it's out of warrenty.
Nothing to see here, move along.

we had a problem like this recently but it wasnt a fault with the console. we did however have exactly the same symptoms so it is possible that you have the same cause.
we had been playing on our full 1080p tv and so the console was set to 1080p. the next day i took it upstairs to play on our 720p tv and just like you we had sound but no picture.
so if it is at all possible that the same has happened to yours then the solution is to connect it to a 1080p tv and change the settings to 480p,(no not even 720 works) once it is changed to 480p connect it to the tv were you have the problem. if it now works you can then change the setting to 720p assuming the tv you are having the problem on is a 720p tv. if it isnt a hd ready tv then leave it at 480p.

so for anyone who has a full hd tv and may be likely to play on another tv as well, that isnt full hd, you need to reset it back to standard definiton. it is annoying having to change the setting after every gaming session. it is quite a cockup in the design in my opinion because what if it was set to 1080p and then the 1080p tv was sold and replaced with a 720p tv? you would have no way of reseting it.
