Yet another digital camera query - sorry!

Know what, these boards used to be frequented by people who genuinely seemed to want to pass on findings, advice etc and to learn from others. Now, very sadly, there seems to be an influx of people who seem to want to flex pseudo anonymous muscles and spit and snarl, witness the above, seemingly pathetic, spat between Darth Marty and Blacksheep 1979. Very sad! Still, I dont suppose it will be the last forum needing to close because of the childlike and stupid behaviour of a few.0

Agreed however I was only doing as you said and passing on what I think is great info.
My response was childish but he/she/it irritated me.0 -
A little back on track...... :-)
When you look at the models, for a compact the thing you need to take a close look at is the quality of the lens, that is what has the biggest influence over the quality of the shot, not the megapixels. Look at OPTICAL zoom (if you want zoom) and ignore digital zoom, as this just uses the picture you take and with some software built in, moves in closer to the picture. However, it works with the already taken picture, so when you do this zoom, you will loose quality of the image. Much better to get a 3X Optical than say a 10X digital
Have a look at a few on the net (the link provided above are good sites), then narrow it down. Have a look for the lens manufacturer and quality and you will be able to make a good choice from that
If all else fails, go to somewhere like Jessops on the high street and and a try before you buy. I have always had good advice off them in the past

Bear in mind, you only get the top level of megapixels if you shoot at the highest quality setting that the camera has.
I bought Canon IXUS 80 IS from Amazon as Marty J recommended. Excellent little camera, well built and has the usual Canon picture quality and menu system. It's going elsewhere for £140+ so this is the best deal around right now."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

Dont bother with face recognition-its just a pain and a selling gimmick

Thanks so far - must admit I'm still dithering and confused - there is just TOO MUCH choice!
Fujifilm ones seem to crop up quite abit and the Canon IXUS 80 IS seems to be mentioned quite favourably.
I suppose it's like everything, alot of it is down to personal choice.
I am appreciating all the advice though and taking it all on board for when I make my final decision - I will let you know if/when I ever get there!0 -
