Yet another digital camera query - sorry!

Help. I'm going bog-eyed searching the forum to find out which digital camera to get!

Basically I'm after a digital camera - 8 megapixel with movie mode, face recognition, li-on rechargable battery, lcd screen, sd card (and maybe xd as well if possible) and all for around £80 - £100.

Is this possible for a good make? And which makes are best?

Would appreciate any guidance please.

The Canon IXUS 80 IS is a cracking little camera.

It's a little bit over your budget, but worth it if you can stretch another £8.

It comes in pink too if you like that sort of thing.
  • I'd agree there with Marty - stick with proper brands and tbh you're not going to need near 8megapixels unless you're trying to print larger than A3
  • Completely off track Tescos are selling the Canon Eos 1000d for £289.
With my wifes staff discount it was £258.

    Lovely.
  • So pretty much 3x the op's budget and a dslr which I doubt very much is what they're after - yeah that was a worthwhile post...

I wouldn't get a DSLR unless you're confident with a camera - I'm going to be upgrading to one after three years/10,000 photographs with a compact!

I use a Canon A710 IS, which I bought two years ago but is an excellent little camera. I chose it for the macro mode (1cm macro - anything more isn't worth it for me) but I'm sure there'll be models now which offer face recognition. The A720 was the upgrade of mine, so do check it out.

Megapixels is really about detail - unless you want to print pictures out on a high resolution or need really really sharp detail, it's not as important. Pretty difficult to get less than 8MP these days though, you should be fine!

The sharpness of a photo has nothing to do with how many megapixels the camera that took it had.
