Play.com-Beware

I recently purchased a DVD from Play.com having used them before and been happy with their service. However on this occasion the DVD was purchased from Play Trade through the Play.com website -It arrived today and I'm pretty sure its counterfeit, the colours and printwork are poor, but I cannot prove it for sure as I don't want to open it.
I have been on the phone all morning complaining to Play.com but they basically inform me that this is not their problem and I should complain to the seller. Surely this must break UK laws? Beware when purchasing with Play.com, I will be avoiding it altogether from now on.

It isn't their problem, they're acting as a selling platform for a 3rd party and clearly tell you this when you buy from Play Trade, as stated on the web site you should take it up with the seller.
Have you read the FAQ's?

I'm very upset with Play.com
I ordered a TV as a Christmas present for my son on 2nd December.
I've been checking the order status and for 5 days it's been saying "Item is on its way to you" although no money has been taken from my avccount.
I felt uneasy so have just phoned customer services and been told the TV is unavailable. My order went through ok ( in stock) but I was told it must have become out of stock during the order process.
Surely I just have been notified, but the manager I spoke to said this was not practise.
I'm so upset and annoyed because I cannot get this same TV anywhere else.
I've used Play.com before but NEVER AGAIN.

Thanks for the responses. Accoding to my local trading standards office Play.com are breaking the law by doing this (if knowingly) and do have a responsibility to assist me in getting a refund for the item. Any disclaimer they may have on their website would not be legal. I guess this is why Ebay spent thousands of pounds installing software to reduce the amount of counterfeit items on their, it works out cheaper than getting sued!
Counterfeit goods can be reported here http://www.ripofftipoff.net/ and I found trading standards really helpful when I called. Chrissy3634 -I really hope you get things sorted with your TV it might be worth giving trading standards a call and then getting on the phone to Play.com.0 -

Amazon were on Watchdog a couple of weeks ago for something similar and they were held accountable as it was using their brand.0

I ddnt realise that Trading Standards assisted in buying goods from other countries ?0 -
I buy from play.com all the time and have never had a problem, but I would never buy from Play trade it is private sellers selling goods via the play website
I am surprised that play are refusing to help but as they said you have to go to the seller that you bought the item from the and ask them to refund you

Where does it say the item was brought from another country? I read in the OPs post that it was brought on the uk site through their marketplace (play trade) . . . nowhere does it mention being from outside the UK.0 -
i use play all the time and i have never had a problem. Contact the seller and voice your concerns before jumping the gun - they should at least have the right to reply!OnePoll - £12.40, Yougov - £1.00, VO - £24.25, youdoo miles - 24292, MHF - £0.00
