Monitor Keeps On Restarting

Options
Hi,
I'm on XP home and im having really annoying monitor problems. Its an old (about 6 years) CRT monitor which has always been fine. However, now when im using the computer it keeps on restarting. By that i mean, it goes black and then goes back on again after a second. Its like what happens when you change the screen resolution.

Could it be the graphics card or is it the monitor? The power light stays on, so i dont think its something to do with the power... Ive uploaded a video of it happening here, sorry that its 4mb.

Thanks!

PS I added some new RAM about a month before this started happening, could this be a possible cause?

  • It looks like its looseing its charge! A monitor builds up a charge inside and when it gets old it cannot hold the charge and it goes off.
I've got 20 monitors in my garage becosue of this and you might as well buy a new one.
I'm not poor i'm just skint

Completely remove the video cable from both ends and then reconnect again. If it still does it, it sounds like a power supply fault in the monitor. I doubt if adding new RAM is the cause, unless you have disturbed something like the graphics card while fitting it.

That does sound logical, but i don't have another monitor to try, nor can i borrow one from somewhere.

Thanks, i'll try that :) When i reconnect it will it work again straight away or do i have to set anything up? I dont think it can be a power supply fault, as the power stays on while it happens... Im probably wrong though :p

I joined about a week ago and so far Ive had 6pcs and 3monitors all for free
just a case of picking them up as all posts and messages go to a mod first
    so they can be vetted.

    Very good IMHO

    Thanks Rex_Mundi

Thanks... If it still happens with a different monitor is it most likely the graphics card?
