leaving talktalk - but where to?

Options
Weve been with TT for 3 months now. the internet was ok for a few weeks. since then its been really slow. TT support is useless, so now we're thinking of moving. we're loathed to pay the £70 to cancel, the service has been abysmal!!!
I want to know 2 things: is there a way of getting out of paying for cancellation of contract? And who would people suggest we go with? We were with BT, but looking at their packages they dont seem to be so competitive. Is tiscali any good? I dont want a bandwidth limit if possible as I have iplayer on all the time and dont want to exceed my limit.
thanks for any suggestions/advice.

  • You will need to pay the £70.00 cessation fee unless you can prove they were in breach of the contract, eg....they did not supply a fully working line or BB. Whats the issues you are having? We have TT and had problems for 6 months but they are now OK!:j

talktalk BB was fine, then all of a sudden its slowed down to a crawl. We spend so long on the phone to them and get fobbed off, them telling us someone will phone us and noone ever does and so on and so on. 3 months later and we're paying for a service which is barely fit for purpose.
Ive found out that because of all the complaints TT has had, they will 'look favourably' on people who want to cancel the contract (ie: the chances are they wont charge £70). But this will mean we will lose our telephone number. This is something that cant happen. Where does that leave us?

I cancelled , and because I spoke to them first rather than BT ( next call) they put a cancellation on line rather than accept the transfer - lots of calls were made , and only on last day was I sure that number was retained

My advise is to avoid any package with a long minimum contract length as there are plenty of decent ISP's with a 1 month contract. Take a look at some of the comparison websites such as simplifydigital.co.uk.
    Good luck
