Options
Hi
I'm quite new to these boards so hope wiser moneysavers can help me out!

I'm hoping for some info as thinking of honeymoon in Monte Carol and/or Monaco and/or St Tropez might be options for us.

Would like help with:

Where to stay?
Distance apart (Monte Carlo/Monaco/St Tropez)?!
Nearest airport?
Not sure about what there is to do/see?

Hope there's someone with advice/info please : )

Thanks, Mup.

    Hi,

Can't answer all your questions but :

Monte Carlo is in the Principality of Monaco. Nearest Airport is Nice (in France).

I find Monaco very expensive but it's a beautiful area and tres chic. Plenty to do in the area covering Marseille/Nice/Monte Carlo. I recommend you hire a car.
  • It is about 80 euros in a taxi or 16 each on the airport bus from Nice which takes you into Monte Carlo. The Hotel Hermitage is a wonderful hotel, look at tripadvisor.com and see the remarks of guests. Staying in Monte Carlo is not moneysaving but then if it is your honeymoon so what??
Hope you have a wonderful time and ley us know what you decide on.
  • hire a car from easycar at nice airport and then go exploring. Antibes along the coast is well worth a visit.

There is a very good railway system along the French Riviera from St Rapahel to Monaco and on to Italy. You could stay at a great hotel and then just get on the train to various places, without worry of a car, you could get taxis back to your hotel at the end of the day.

There is no train service to St Tropez, road only. Toulon TLN airport is not too far away and https://www.ryanair.com fly direct and https://www.airfrance.co.uk indirect. https://www.flybe.com fly to Avignon AVN.

    This place looks good http://www.lebeauvallon.com

  • Hi. Will second everything former posters have said about Monte Carlo. If you do get there, visit the Palace. It is/was ony about 8E entrance and included are a personal set of earphones/tape which describes every room in detail. Well worth it. Its quite a hike up to it although you could take the noddy train as an alternative. The views from the palace are wonderful. There is no doubt, it is an expensive resort, but you could people watch for free and see just 'how the other half live' Whatever you decide to do, enjoy. Regards Sallysaver
  • Monte Carlo is one of my favourite places, though it is expensive.

The rail journey from Nice is fantastic - make sure to get a sea side seat and enjoy the view along the coast. You'll also pass a number of other places you could consider staying with various levels of exclusivity - Beaulieu-Sur-Mer, St.Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

I have gone to the Monaco Grand Prix a number of times and used the viewing terrace at Cafe De Paris. They are part of http://www.montecarloresort.com/en/ (also including the Hermitage mentioned above) and are very helpful while I'm arranging tickets from the UK and sorting a vegetarian meal which doesn't come as standard on what I guess is one of their busiest days of the year.

    Hi,
We have been to the area for the last 6 years,it's great.

What time of year is your honeymoon? because it's very, very busy at peak times,we always go in September.

I can't recomend an hotel,as we always stay in an apartment.

It's about 80 miles from Monte Carlo to St Tropez, and i would suggest a hire car, basically because you can stop wherever you want, but the traffic can be bad.

    Taxi's are very expensive.

I will PM you a document that i sent to a workmate of mine when he went last Aug,i also sent it to anothe Moneysavingexpert around the same time.

    Enjoy.

I was there last September and it rained for about half of the time there. The year before I went in June .... yes it was busy but the weather was beautiful. I will definitly go again but not in September as the weather is too hit or miss.

Balsingh,i remember you asked me about the area before you went last Sept,we were there at the same time, and i did think at the time that you might be very dissapointed with the weather.
We have been in Sept for 6 years, and last year was exceptionally stormy,we got caught out one night while driving, and nearly got stranded in a flood.I think it rained 5 days out of the first week, but honestly, you normally one get maybe one day of rain.
Don't let it put you off going again in Sept.....we were playing mini golf in St Tropez on 16th Sept and it was 32 c at 6 in the evening.

I did say at the time, the weather is not guaranteed, but last year was BAD !
