Question: quoting a previous post

hello,
Can someone tell me what the quickest way is to quote different parts of a previous post? like is there a code I can insert in my post so it will appear like the brackets instead of pressing quote and having to delete most of it.
I have been through the FAQ and its not in there!
Thanks
Jen

I do a lot of Copying and Pasting: Ctrl+A selects the whole post, Ctrl+C copies it, Ctrl+V pastes it. I paste it several times then delete the bits I don't want in between the pieces of my answer.top_drawer wrote: »Can someone tell me what the quickest way is to quote different parts of a previous post? like is there a code I can insert in my post so it will appear like the brackets instead of pressing quote and having to delete most of it.
A bit like this, in fact.top_drawer wrote: »I have been through the FAQ and its not in there!
Now for that, I press the Quote button to open in a new window - for me it's either the middle button on my mouse, or right click and 'open in new tab' on DH's laptop - might depend on your browser and hardware combinations! I do that for however many posts I want to quote in my reply. Then I write my first answer, Ctrl+A to select it all, Ctrl+C to copy it, move to the next tab window, Ctrl+V to paste it.been wondering this and also if you want to quote from 2 or more posts?
That may not be the quickest way, so I shall Watch This Space ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

There is a 'MultiQuote' feature in newer versions of vBulletin that gives you an extra button to select and quote multiple quotes from a thread in one go.
May be nice to have that if it can be enabled and/or upgraded to eventually.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I paste and copy the whole thing then use the the little yellow speech box icon at the top in the reply to put in a 'quote' code at the begining of where I want to quote (you will see this,) then I highlight and drag the 2nd quote to the end of where I want to quote and drop, delete what I don't want and do the same for any further bits I want to quote. Is that any help?0

Not my intention... and I now have to try out minimoneyme's way too.
:T Yes, it is, thank you! Although that way doesn't automatically show you who said what, which is sometimes useful.I paste and copy the whole thing then use the the little yellow speech box icon at the top in the reply to put in a 'quote' code at the begining of where I want to quote (you will see this, [ quote ][ quote ] ) then I highlight and drag the 2nd quote to the end of where I want to quote and drop, delete what I don't want and do the same for any further bits I want to quote. Is that any help?
The way I do it, you'll see a little blue arrow to the right of the person's name that you're quoting, and if you click on that you get taken to their original post. I'm guessing mmm's way won't do that, but it would be useful for when I copy and paste from another website, for example. Always wondered how people made such things look like quotes, and now I know ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Actually what you see is [ quote ] [ /quote ] and I've had to put spaces around the [ ] to make it show up right. It's that /quote which ends the quote.minimoneyme wrote: »I paste and copy the whole thing then use the the little yellow speech box icon at the top in the reply to put in a 'quote' code at the begining of where I want to quote (you will see this, [ quote ][ quote ] ) then I highlight and drag the 2nd quote to the end of where I want to quote and drop, delete what I don't want and do the same for any further bits I want to quote. Savvy_Sue and minimoneyme posted the easiest ways of doing it
Multi-quote would be nice but until then those methods will do0
