Maestro Card

I got a Maestro card a few months ago and tried to use it for the first time the other day but the payment wouldn't go through.

Do these cards need activated before you can use them? Can I activate it over the phone?

Not unless its online I don't think.

What Bank is it?
Natwest, Yorkshire, HSBC, RBS?

I think I had to ring to actvate mine, they have 24 hour helpline you could ring and ask

Some online interfaces don't accept Maestro's 18 or 19 digit (depending on the bank) card number format.

Try the card somewhere else (or in person using the PIN) to prove.
