How do I close my Egg card?

e.g. if you have authorised RAC to take an amount on an annual basis, then the card issuer has no option but to pay it and closing the account makes no difference.
The lender has every right to re-open/re-activate the account and charge the (previously agreed by you) Sentinel renewal premium to it.
They'll write to your previous address, you won't reply, and they'll sell the debt on (along with associated late payment fees & interest).
Mr K, suggest you...

thanks YorkshireBoy/Lisyloo. Yes I'm aware of the pitfall of continous credit card payments (see earlier post), thats why I don't have them. But if you don't have any of these they've no reason to keep your details.
Credit card companies have got us stitched up every way it would seem, but personal information and the protection of your data should be taken more seriously. Its compromised by them holding onto account details that you've long ago closed/forgotten about, and possibly then sending your details to an old address.
Doubtless they have a loophole and are acting within the law (I feel a letter to my MP coming on.......;) )0 -
But if you don't have any of these they've no reason to keep your details.
But how would the card issuer know whether you had signed any CCAs??
ESP
I do agree with your sentiment, that's why I have no CCAs like you.
I also carry minimal amount of cards (don't carry driving licence), everything not used is in a safe at home.
I don't open accounts gratuitously e.g. for £15 Amazon voucher.
I have the minimum I need, but it's impossible to operate without a card if you want to travel. If you want to hire a car (for example) and pay by cash, you'd need a very large deposit without a card to secure it.
I do share your concerns but if they didn't keep data then they'd have to pass on the costs of lost revenue (of debt they could not chase) onto other customers.
I think there are very big concerns about data generally with all that has been lost in the post, left on a train etc.0 -
even if the card gets closed thriftymanc i beleive its their "thing" to still allow you to log online for up to a yr or so i was told but you can request that the get rid of it, but i did find that a bit "hit and miss" i can still log in but i dont have the details anywhere else but my head. so i'm ok with that, i got my message confirming the account was closed, printed it of making sure all subscritions were cancelled too.
Good luck.0 -
i just logged into my acount 2 wkks ago, sent egg a message to ask how i close my account

I have problems with egg, paid off and closed account but could still access it online. I ahd written to them, I didn't want account to be accessed but they insisted over a year ago it had to stay online, so a year later they are saying they need to keep my details for 6 years - which I don't have a problem with but I can't seem to get the internet access removed and it shows that the money is available, even though it was very much closed!0

Egg allow you internet access for your own benefit e.g. proof required for warranty or insurance purposes.
If you are worried about access, then you could as a security measure enhance the complexity of your password.0 -
Thanks, but I never bought anything on the card, it was a straightforward balance transfer so no need for me to ever look back through it paid off over a year ago and have not accessed the account for 12 months and then only to check if it had been removed like they told me. Thanks for reply!0

Agreed, but they have processes and procedures for everyone not just you :-)
I understand your frustration but if they won't change their mind to change their process just for you then the only thing you can do is make it more secure.
Every piece of info you have out there is a risk, so that's something you need to consider when getting credit.
I certainly won't get cards for a £15 gift voucher because I don't consider it worth it.
If you really are concerned about security and id fraud then you need to consider this every time e.g. was it worth it for a single BT?0 -
Had i known when I took it out no i wouldn't have bothered, but the thing is year ago they told me it would be removed after a year. I don't usually get balance trnasfers because of offers, i only got it as it had a long low rate. I just can't see why it has to be accessibl on net!0
