At Stansted it is security that check the size of your hand luggage not Ryanair and they are very strict. This can be a problem if they refuse to let you through saying "you have to check this in" and the checkin desk has already closed. Same is true of trying to take 2 rather than 2 piece of hand luggage. If you search this forum you will find comments about security at the other airports I'm sure.

I do use Stansted. Do they just look at the handluggage by eye or are they measuring all of it and 1 and a half cm on the feet of the suitcase therefore too much.

Thought the post about putting luggage into cage so only feet stick out was useful but am still a bit concerned!

To be honest I don't see how you can reasonably expect anyone to say 'yes, this will be ok'. Just because other people have used this case and not been stopped that doesn't mean it will be the same for everyone. The bottom line is IMHO that you now have a case which you are already aware exceeds the maximum dimensions stated, whether you decide to use that case is entirely up to you.

They certainly measured it at Alicante a couple of weeks ago, 7 lads had to pay 20 euro's each for being over size.

Yes, you are quite right I know. I am going to see if the Tesco classic expander trolleycase 50cm which they say on website is 55cm is any good but will have to wait till it comes back into stock. Hopefully I would get a few trips out of it before it fell apart its only £7 so cant be very sturdy. Has anyone got this suitcase? I did buy the Argos one because it had been mentioned as okay on this website, but it isnt really alright without removing bits of it! If Tesco not alright I am going to get this and carry it- the medium size foldaway

I,m sure the Tesco one will be fine, cases only get damaged by baggage handlers, hand luggage doesn't get the same bad treatment.
