Northumbrian Water

Hi all prob's my first post about debt anyway's :P...

I got my bill for my water recently and fell behind on payment's and when i went to revise my plan they said they would only accept a certain offer.

So i decided that i would let it go to the debt recovery and just pay it via them as i don't dispute the bill just no way i could have afforded those payment on JSA.

The debt recovery name is Alexander Jame & Co and it seem's to me they are part of northumbrian water (probably's just another department) as it has on the bottom of the letter that it is a commercial division of them.

My girlfriend rang them up offering £15 per fortnight but he said that the mininum that they would be able to accept is £15 per week.

He asked if she was working and atm neither of us are and we currently claim JSA and he said that we could set up a plan where they can take the money direct from the JSA that we get and we would be able to pay 7.80 per week if we do that as we will be paying the remainer of the bill and next year's is how he explained it , then it will be revised so the payment's will be lowered for the following year as i would have paid the remainer and the following bill off.

Now the question i have is can they put any amount as he was the one sending the letter to the JSA to get them to agree and i hope that they are not just going to put the £15 pound's a week that we can not afford.

He said it take's 4-6 week's before i get any letter so the payment's could increase a little as ofc it's the 4-6 week's i have missed out on payment's.

Any help would be appreciated on this matter and put my mind to rest.

Thank's in advance for any reply's.

  • When water companies try for direct payment from you social or JSA the amount you pay per week is decided by the social or JSA not the water company.
It is based on what the social or JSA beleive you can afford to pay.
It will cover your normal yearly water bill and usualy some if not all of the arreas.

So can the jobcentre decide to take more than we agreed on the phone?

Or do the jobcentre contact me to decide how much is going out on bill's before they decide on how much you can afford to go out?

As if they decide to take to much i will be up s**t creek without a paddle.

Thank's in advance for the reply.
  • It will probably be less per week than the water company is trying to get.
Social or JSA is supposed to help cover your everyday needs so you can home yourself, and eat.
They will still take this into account when they calculate how much you can afford to pay per week to the water company.
