in Credit cards
I have a Virgin Credit Card and thought I had a direct debit setup ... my second statement came in yesterday. I noticed a late payment fee - called them up and have been told that the 0% offer (yes I also paid a transfer fee) will be terminated and they didn't mention anything about gesture of goodwill to remove the fine!
I have been told call monday to arrange a new rate! This is totally unfair... what can I do anyone??
Thanks :j

You are usually told that you have to continue manual payments until your statement shows that the DD will be used to pay the minimum payment.
As such, Virgin are within their rights to claim a breech of T&C's.
Did the DD take a particularly long time to set up?
I seem to remember that the last time I set one up they said it could take up to six weeks (God alone knows why).0 -
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "thought I had a direct debit setup".
The sequence of events with a new Virgin account is as follows...- Call to activate the card, give your bank details, and request to pay the minimum payments by DD.
- Virgin send you a letter confirming that the DD has been set up, but this letter clearly states that you should continue to pay your bill by other means until your statement shows that the DD will be collected on or after XX/XX/XXXX.
- When you receive your first statement, you should check for the above message.
- If the message is not there, the easiest way to pay is by telephone using your debit card - after all, it's only a fiver!!
Finally, you can try and plead on Monday, but Virgin do state quite clearly in their T&C's that you will lose the 0% if you don't comply with the T&C's.0 -
Well it seems I was an idiot... so, no-one thinks I have a chance of getting back my 0% rate and the fine removed? ( at the least the fine removed I guess? )
I was hoping someone would have had this problem before and could suggest something like... "I never received my statement so how was I suppose to pay it?" ... no?

Just apply for the next best 0% offer Credit Card and transfer your balance to it.0

You broke the T&Cs and they called you up on it. I doubt they will correct the situation. As the poster above me said, your best bet is to apply for another 0% card and transfer to it.0

Tough !!!!!! mate. First rules of 0% stoozing:- get organised up front.

Sort out the 0% DD as part of the account set-up.

ok... think your getting abit carried away. I can keep up, it's just it difficult when your trying to help out three brothers each with cards and loans and your own Dad and no-one else but me understands it and so one slip up isn't too bad.
Cheers anyways. Have a nice weekendHelp me to help you :santa2:0 -
I'd give them a ring Robert on monday and say you really did believe the DD was in place and mumble something about looks like I'll have to transfer it to another card then......
I've just cleared my Virgin card and last week they rang twice to offer me a new rate - even saying I could have it put in my bank account if I wanted - they ringing me on tuesday to ask again! It would appear they definetly want business so you might get a nice CSA who'll reinstate your 0%.0 -
Yes, it's particularly hard when so many things happen instantly, and yet others, for no apparant reason, can take weeks.robert_harper_2000 wrote:ok... think your getting abit carried away. Virgin CC are definitely corrupt. They make it deliberately difficult to make your payments and then are very quick to send the fines for late payment. They also never tell you that the 0% has been revoked, you just have to notice yourself when your next bill comes in. This all happened to me not once but twice (2 months running) when neither time it was my fault. I immediately cancelled the card and moved to a proper credit card provider (Egg).
