Hi
I've had problems with council tax and the threat of bailiffs in the past. My council is Hull City Council - I rang the Debt Collection Dept and offered a monthly payment of x amount - sorry I can't remember how much the debt/repayment was. Anyway, that sorted the immediate problem - the bailiffs - but if you make an offer of payment you MUST stick to it as my Council were very quick to get to bailiff status. Try National Debt Line web-site as they have good advice, also try CAB. If I remember correctly bailiffs cannot enter your property unless you invite them (a bit like vampires!) but apparently they can enter thru an open window? Again, not 100% sure how accurate that info is but Good Luck!

i have tried calling CAB, no answer and payplan are going to phone me back, the collection agency are no longer willing to come to an arrangement with us unless we pay them about £400 which we cant, all they said was the bailiff will be round sometime, totally unwilling to help at all and obviously dont care, just want their money so now i am living in fear every time the door goes or a strange car pulls up and the beat the bailffs prog is staged and rubbish.Money's too tight to mention!!!0

I just thought I would post an update, my husband managed to get some work so we were able to pay a lump sum off the amount we owed of £300, we now owe £750 and they have agreed to let us pay them £20 a week by debit card. They want us to clear the balance by April so we have said if we get any extra money we will throw that at it too. At least I am not having to worry about the bailiffs any more. Thanks for all your support suziMoney's too tight to mention!!!0

Thats good news. Be proud of yourselves for facing and dealing with your debt instead of trying to blame everyone else for it or trying to evade paying it.0 -

Fantastic news calmgirl,
It'll come together, call it a 'new beginning'
believe it or not, you will laugh about this one day!
...Linda xxIt's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0
