Congratulations Thrifty, its our 1st baby too so I know what you mean about being scared but I can honestly say i think I am more scared about doing this challenge!!! :rotfl:

You all seem a friendly bunch so sure you will help me out.
I am going to do my sums at the weekend (providing I am not in labour of course!!) and will post my budget soon.

Thanks for your nice messages so far x x :T

    P.S - Love that I am expecting a frugalmite!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Good luck, hope everything goes well.

  • Congratulations Thriftylass and Pips Mum! I'm due 7th March! So frugalmites everywhere!! :j Its my first too...

I signed up to the challenge - hopefully it will make SMP stretch abit further and hopefully means I could get away with working part time hours after SMP finishes.

    Waffle over :o xx
  • Right I have done my figures. For 2009 my budget is £3300. I know it's less than the £4000 but to make things easier for the BF I've already included the TV licence (£140) and the mobile internet (£420 - yes did nearly have a heart attack) into our monthly outgoings. Car charges such as petrol and tax etc are not included in the £3300, as mine is essential for work. As are our mobiles as we have no house phone, hopefully will be able to cut down our contracts later in the year.

    So the £3300 - £275 a month will include:
Food, toiletries and any alcohol - £140 a month (hopefully less with grocery challenge
    Sports fees (joint) - £57
Any gifts and cards £? Prob mark £20 a month for this
Haircuts (BF £10 and mine £10 but every couple of months)
Any clothing or shoes (or new bags ;) ) £? (as needed)
Any leisure activities, dinners out, pubs etc - have to see if they're is money left.

Sounds easy, but i think it'll be a big challenge especially when I can't go out and impulse buy.

Hopefully by the end of 2009 I shall be debt free and my BF will be well on his way to being debt free. :j

    Good luck everyone!!!!

You could always have a loooong wait for my b'day (23rd Jan), but probably more reasonable to suggest my Dad's (28th Dec)

A friend of mine was due a baby on Valentine's Day -- but ended up with a special Christmas present instead  (Her little bundle is now a gorgeous 'not so little any more' chappy.) She's expecting again, so is being very carefully monitored in case she's that early again -- which would make this one around Valentine's Day so you have to wonder ;)
